Well first i have to say it was beter than i expected. From my test server experiences i had 1-2 fps in station and around 6 outside. Atm on Tranquility i get around 30-40 fps when idling outside station but inside i get around 6. Inside the station game is kinda "hard" to play, althought it was expected due to the amount of textures that are all over the screen.
Some points:
1) Fitting screen on my card is bugged, i will fill a bug report asap. 2) Warp efect causes massive fps drop. From around 25-30 goes to 6-7. I dont see why cause the overall effect on my card doesn't look like much different than the previous. The jump effect is nice, it causes momentarily a low fps decrease but maybe i can live with it. 3) Was anxious to see what fps i get on belts with all those new rock textures. Wasnt bad, no big deal fps drop there. 4) I also did some small scale battles, didn't check the fps window though, it had some fps drop but it was playable. Although i doubt it will be playable with big fleets, despite the fact that on classic it was fine.
Tbh atm the only real hard time i have is with those effects, and mostly the warp drive effect. I suppose same will happen with the wormhole effects and the various enviromental effects on wormhole space. If it is possible we get an option to decrease a little the quality of the effects, it would be pretty nice. Another issue is the very low fps inside station, although its not a big deal cause inside station you are safe anyway so you dont really care. But if a small texture optimization is possible it would be nice. But maybe last on the list.
That is all for now. At least i can play the game in some way. Keep in mind that i had everything at low. Texture quality caused the smaller fps gain, followed by shader quality and lastly the bloom effect had the biggest impact on frame rate.
Right now it seems like you get a little fps drop (but at least not game breaking) with what you had with clssic, if you exclude the station enviroment and when there are various effects around. Have no idea what the fps will be on big fleets though. Possily i will get some soon and will post my expirience. Anyway we will see how it goes.

although I'm very happy CCP I'm running better in belts with 32-40 FPS in Apocrypha then i was in classic with 25-30 FPS
edit: i agree with OP not first poster

Edited by: Quantar Raalsken on 12/03/2009 20:53:22 i shall now dub thee classic whiners "Furriers"
and then direct u to the chronicle about Amarr torture
Quote: Glad you asked. Let's back off a little." He took a couple of steps away from the star, then shouted, "Fire!" There was a twang and a squeak, and from out of the darkness shot a small, furry bundle. It hit the Holy Star with a sound like something soft and wet hitting something hard and unforgiving, and hung there, spread-eagled and flat like a pancake, its back turned out to the world. "Is that a ... furrier?" Forte said. "Indeed. Revolting little critters," Dranera said. "We use them a lot in our experiments." The furrier began to slowly drift down, leaving a crimson trail. Dranera said, "Now let's see the Star shine," and traced the double bow of the Amarrian sigil in the air with the remote before pressing it. The star began to hum, very softly, and the furrier's descent stopped. There was a noise like someone sucking air through their teeth. Little threads, tendrils of red, started weaving their way from the rodent into the Holy Star, like drops of ink in water. "You're killing a furrier?" Forte said. "Think of it more as a," Dranera waived his hand in the air, "reeducation." "You're killing a furrier." "Shush now. Watch." As the tendrils progressed deeper into the star, the furrier started thinning out noticeably. Dents began to appear in its fur, and a few hairs dropped off and floated to the ground. As Forte stared, the furrier's legs went into the star, deeper and deeper as if it were taking a slow dive into a pond of invisibility. The only thing that came out on the other end was more tendrils, feeling their way like floating strands of red gossamer. Eventually even the fur went, and the tendrils turned from red to white and then to a brownish gray. Then there was no more furrier.

Geforce 5 should not have been mentioned as supporting SM2.0. nVidia bolted on SM2.0 in the last minute for the checkbox mark. It got ultra slow SM2.0 performance. --------------------------------------

How about this for all you stupid people who are having issues with eve and your graphics cards..
Umm your never guess what I'm about to say!.
UPGRADE YOUR CARDS.
For real people, it will cost you $20 bucks to buy a card that supports eve fully, 10 if you get one used.
Stop being cheap ...... and just upgrade.
BTW anyone who post a reply asking .. but I don't have that money.. points out that they are playing a game that cost them 15 a month a play.. Webhosting, teamspeak and Killboard for you, your corp, and your Alliance Click me for more info |

There's in option to not render the inside of stations.
Also, I find it strangely disturbing that a GeForce 5 can even run premium

If you have bad performace running EVE on SM 2.0 on you card you may get better performace forcing SM 1.4 or even 1.1.
Check this thread for how to use EVE with 3D Analyze.
You can even run EVE on cards that don't support SM 2.0 at all.

I have a geforce 5 card too. All settings to low and the game is unplayable outside of station, all ships and stations flicker or disappear. Cloaked ship looks awesome though, kinda like the armour hardner effect all over the ship but I better not go outside the stations in case the flickering induces seizures. Inside the station half the walls are gone and the ship, but its lights remain.
I have to cover it all with the market window to stay sane.
I'm now useless to any corp so using for example my wife's desktop for playing is going to be pretty much restricted to missions (oh great) when she's not using it.
To all the people saying buy a new card: its a laptop - i'd have to replace an otherwise perfectly good laptop just for eve.
To all the people saying the game costs $15 a month etc, I pay with plex's.
I understand the reasons for the changes and hope ya'll like the new graphics, just sux to be me in this situation. Hopefully these new Ion netbooks come out with windows 7 soon, then i might upgrade. till then i'll be ripping you all off in the markets, suckers.

@OP You are lucky if you get 30-40 fps... I get like 15 fps on my 5900XT, so the game is pretty much unplayable. + it looks really ugly with all settings to Low (Classis looked better with 50+ fps).
My fitting screen is bugged too btw.

After playing a little more i noticed that almost all new effects, including the warp effect, the pos shield (shield doesn't even display corectly with shader low, same goes with bubbles), the various effects on wormholes, nebulas etc, cause big fps drop.
I hope CCP makes an option to lwoer the quality of the effects, cause right now is very annoying, sometimes you cant even play decently.

Apocrypha was also a fail here on an FX5700LE. It was actually fine on low as long as you didn't go to a pos or warp anywhere... warping imediately dropped it to 6fps.
I was forced to 'upgrade' to an ati x1650 for the alt pc, which was about the best agp card I could get and cost a lot more than I would have liked. It of course did not even rn 3d and crashed when you tried. It took some time to find driver settings which worked, like switch to AGP 4x... argh. Now it works at least.
There are still graphics issues, even on the 'good' machine, but hopefully they will clean some of that up in the near future. Untill then I will have to stay out of posses with 16 items anchored in them as the textures start dropping.
oh, and THE NEW POS SHIELD GRAPHICS MUST DIE... hehe...

my 5 series is doing okay, bugged fitting screen aswell (wont patition as its still working, its just white) and about 8 fps outside, 10 inside.
it really hates ice tho.
and i managed to crash it out by occluding the sun behind a wormhole.. but no one should be doing that anyway, its one of those questions that make physisists shudder.
no ogod for pvp unfortunitly, but im not addicted and can do admin and industry until i get a new comp.

UPGRADE YOUR CARDS.
If you know how to play Eve it cost $0 to play. $20 is a lot for some folks and when looking at a upgrade you want something better than a $20 video card usually.

Pretty sure you can still get up to GeForce 7800s in AGP...
Edit: Yep, plenty on Google for "GeForce 7800 AGP".That card would be more than enough, so I'm sure you'd be able to find a much cheaper AGP card that still met the requirements with ease.

It's easy to say "just upgrade already". I'm on a low income as I'm on disability, and last year my computer died on me. Couldn't upgrade anymore, as it took out both my RAM and my motherboard. Ended up having to buy all new stuff, simply cause I couldn't get a new Socket A motherboard, and there were no AGP slots on the new motherboards. Costed me more then half a month's income to build me a computer with only low to moderate specs. Luckily I had been saving some money, otherwise it would have been a no-go.
