If I mention that my subscription has been cancelled and I'm now paying for two accounts with PLEXes instead, it might show the situation rather well. If I was a new player, I wouldn't now be playing EVE at all. Veteran players can usually play for (RL) free because they have the means to make money in game - new ones can't because they haven't.
what has this got to do with anything , so i work in a game shop working not many hours i dont go blabbing that i have debts , everyone has please leave you RL in RL. unless it is of course like me where i sexually touched all the eve boxes in my stock room.
The point is quite simply that "buy a better PC" is not necessarily a viable option for everyone. Hence the "elitist trolls" remark.
I wasn't aware that having lots of RL cash was supposed to be essential for playing EVE. You want a game that is supposed to run that way? Try Project Entropia.

Only part I don't really like about the new warp graphics are how they seem to stop before you've arrived. I constantly, go "oh I'm there" except i'm so not :(

I must agree, the ending of the warp animation happens too quick, you always have to wait 3-4 seconds before you are "actually there", kinda stupid.

Some of the problems I see with the new effects/sounds is that ccp is catering to the player who has been playing for years and getting tired of too much happening on the screen or loud noises when the pc is left on for hours. That is why these same people played with sound off / graphics turned down.
These people will continue to play no matter what.
Now, for people who are new to the game, sound effects and graphics are great selling points. I sold my friend on the game shortly before this patch after he saw the warp effect on my computer. He went out and bought it the next day, then we had the patch and he is pretty dissapointed now.
I understand people who are hardcore on the game would rather have as little of effects / distractions as possible when running their spreadsheets, however for those who are new to the game or play casually for the emersion we would rather have bigger, better effects and sound, like an action movie has.
There is no middle ground really. I know people who are content listening to their new music cd out of a one speaker portable radio. Personally this would drive me nuts. We are talking about major differences in the makeup of one's personality for taste in these matters.
The only real way to compromise is to be able to adjust the settings to taste through options.
People sitting at the game for hours / years cannot stand to see the same effects over and over, but new players need them to draw them into the game like an exciting movie preview.

How do you work that out John?
True a lot of us used to turn the sounds off, although I liked the old jump sound it did get annoying.
Also I don't think there's anything wrong with most of the new sounds although there were problems with some of the turret sounds I haven't got around to rechecking.
I've been playing for 3 years, I thought that I would take anything over the old warp effect, turns out I was wrong and I want it back.
I've ringed the problem for me with the new warp effect in this image.
Absolutely drives me do distraction in every warp, all that smeary crap.
I just want to turn the whole stupid effect off, but I haven't worked out how to do it yet without generally lowering a ton of the effects in one go.
if you disagree with me then you should probably post a response and stop reading my signature. |

i don't really mind the new graphics. the only thing im am missing somehow are the noise and the 'shaking' when slowing down coming to the gate. this was a great signal that you had to jump soon when you where using multiple accounts to haul stuff around (or when you are like hauling while reading a book or so - obelisks are sooooo slow). now, you have to look all the time to see if you're there or not (yet).
well well, we will have to get used to it, i assume. change happenz. --- creator and maintainer of eve commander - complete web based character information tool and ec agent finder |

It is unreasonable to expect the graphics to remain static forever just so some people never have to upgrade.
