My Macbook Pro doesn't run Apocrypha. So I am looking to build a gaming PC. I don't want to spend more than 1000 on the actual PC itself if I can avoid it but I am flexible. Does anyone have any suggestions?

1000 is an easy target. Build cheap stuff up, so its dead easy to see how much you can spend on the important things.
Any old DVD drive, who cares. 4GB of DDR2/3 memory - will set you back about 200 ATI Radeon 4850 - about 150 Core i7 mobo = 300 Core i7 chip = 300 HDD = 80
You'll be sitting pretty with a setup like that for more than just EVE. --- Have a rawr on me. |

Thanks Grez. That's in line with the advice I'm getting. I've been on a Mac recently and haven't built a PC in several years so I don't know what's good at this time. That's the second mention of that ATI card, so I'll keep that one in mind.

Any advice as to brands on the parts besides the processor and the vcard? I've had really good luck with Kingston Memory in the past. Motherboard brand suggestions are welcome. Is Asus still good?

Ignore the Core i7 for now, it's more than you need, for most anything atm tbh... Unless you're just wanting to grow your epeen?
Phenoms suck, I'll just leave that statement that general for now.
I'm not too fond of the ATi cards anymore either. As much as most AMD fanboys would like you to believe, they're beloved video cards are having issues as well as nVidia's.
Give me a few and let me go around through newegg and put something together. Does this $1,000 mark actually need to include keyboard/mouse, speakers and screen or no? --------------------------- I have to make my own sig break? WTF? No, the peripherals don't need to be in the $ 1000 but I do need an OS.

If you pay about 200 for 4GB of DD2/3 memory you are getting ripped off You can get 6 GB DDR3-1333 for 89 euro's
If you want a good setup, dont spend more than 200 euros on a video card(you'll have a good one for 200 euros) Get 2GB of Ram unless you are running a 64 bit system, you can enable upto 3.5GB of ram on 32 bit systems if you think you need that. (dont spend more than 100 euros on ram, as i said you can get alot of ram for just 89 euros) Don't spend more than 120 euros on a motherboard. Don't spend more than 200 euros on a cpu (make sure it can support your motherboard and your ram) I assume you have a HD if not you can buy 1TB for about 80 euros but you wont really need that much anyway you can get less for cheaper.

Total: $975+shipping
The shipping could bring it up over the $1,000 mark a little. Of course, with newegg, you may get the shipping cost lowered because of the shipment of multiple items, so it may not go over your price point. Just letting you know, it could go either way, lol.
The HDD and Optical drive you could double up on if you want to swing the extra price.
Also, with that case, I'm not really too sure on the cooling. You may wanna try this one: Cooler Master HAF-932 Some call it ugly, I like it though, lol. It's also $10 cheaper than the Zalman case.
Review of the Zalman case. Review of the Cooler Master case.
Also, if you want more fans or anything, go to svc for 'em. --------------------------- I have to make my own sig break? WTF? These forums suck CCP, fix 'em or get something better... I'm tired of reading Khraunus' sig every single time I read one of his |

Any of these setups are good, but the guy is right stay away from the damn phenom. I got a phenom 9750 quad core, and it is slower than my old athlon 64 dual core. By a LOT.

Yeah, I used to like AMD, but I dunno wtf happened to 'em. They're CPU's have become a joke lately :/
Anyway, I also forgot to mention that if you don't want the stock cooling on the CPU, try this to go with it: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro with some Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound. --------------------------- I have to make my own sig break? Anubis Assassin Thanks for all the effort you put into that. I'll look into it. As for the ugly Cooler Master case, no worries, my other toon flies Minmatar. ;)
