will there be ever a time for planet mining via a large ass ,planet ****ing drone , or something
i mean you can now mine moons, yet i would love to see a operation where you can send a drone or something thru a planet atmosphere to mine

Would be awesome to take a page from Dead Space and have Planet Crackers, giant capital mining ships that can mine resource planets. Of course this should be limited to 0-0 so people aren't mining Jita planets or something goofy ...

If they were to add planet mining they should think beyond ships or anchored POS'. Think planetary bases, maybe one of those space-station-planetary-rings around them for defence and transit between space and the planet.
Who knows, maybe even a ground warfare aspect.
There are so many possibilities there, over simplifying it would be a waste, they did that with moonmining already. In every SF movie with space thingies involved there are always bases on planets or moons. I think there should be here too.

How to get from EVE today, to planet mining...
1) Ambulation - Allow people to actually interact with the massive stations that already exist. Once people can move about with something other than their ship, they'll want to go exploring other venues.
2) Atmospheric Flight - Allow people to get close enough to a planet, that they can actually see the continents and oceans and such. Otherwise, they're just background images like the big cloudy nebula that exists EVERYWHERE!!!1!
3) Planetary Colonization - As has been said, will probably only be allowed in 0.0 areas. Because anything more richly populated... will have already been colonized.
3.1) Planetary Mining - Included with this new colony package, will be mining. However, it won't be quite so awesome as you'd expect. I doubt we'd be getting even as "awesome" an interface as StarCraft. But that would be what it'd amount to anyways. Establish base camp, deploy builder drones, make buildings, train people, etc.
3.2) Detailed Ship Crew - Yes, for everyone who's ever whined "Why for don't my ship have no crew!?" or something similar... when you're not cranking out little zerglings or whatever, you can be training the next generation of crewman to fly bravely into space, and get dusted when some noob runs across a gate camp...

I believe the Devs talked about how they wanted to move sov away from control of moons, so my guess would be planets as the next logical choice. I agree though even if we could just "land" like we dock on a station, and also need to look for planets which are valuable in different aspects like industial hive mine worlds up to worlds ripe for agriculture and planets that are just giant cities spanning the entire surface. Would add a lot of depth.

Yeah we will mine planets, build Player-owner cities as in Mankind. And our eve-sims citizens will build T4 components for us, to build some Transformers.
That should be fun.
