I've recently set up a linux system to play 2 EVE accounts.
Ubuntu 8.10 and Wine 1.0.1 AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000 3.1GHz XFX PVT98WYDFH GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB ASUS M3A78-EM Micro ATX 4GB RAM
~/.wine directory copied to /.wine2. Newest full install of EVE (EVE_Premium_Setup_84244_m.exe) installed in ~/.wine/drive_c/EVE then copied to ~/.wine2/drive_c/EVE.
I use two desktop shortcuts with these commands to start EVE. env WINEPREFIX="/home/joe/.wine" wine explorer /desktop=0,1152x864 "C:\EVE\eve.exe" env WINEPREFIX="/home/joe/.wine2" wine explorer /desktop=1,1152x864 "C:\EVE\eve.exe"
Everything is going well except for the following problem.
When looking in my ship hanger all ship icons are solid black, when looking in my station hanger all drone icons are solid black, also POS webification and disruptor modules are solid black. All blackened out T2 items correctly show the yellow "II" corner in the top left and the item names are listed properly under all icons. "Show Info" windows for these items also display black squares for the images.
I've made sure that each client is using its own cache in its own Wine directory. At least I checked for things such as blueprints and map images that appeared as they were viewed for the first time in game. I can't seem to find where ship and drone images are cached. == Support fixing the EVE UI |

Try deleteing your cache folder (not the settings folder). ________________________

I tried renaming the Cache directory. The Cache remade itself and all the sub directories fine. It also began to fill with cached files ok as I played EVE. However the problem persists.
I have found where ship icons are cached. It's inside "/home/joe/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/profiles/joe/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/c_eve_tranquility/cache/Pictures/Gids".
I can also see that each time I look at a new ship a new file is saved in the Gids directory. I tried changing the settings under Graphics Content Settings and watched what files came in.
Graphics Content Settings - All check boxes unchecked, Shader and Texture Quality on Low. - The ship Phobos has a cached file SM_2_0_LO_3361_8_256.dds
Graphics Content Settings - Only Shadows checked, Shader and Texture Quality on High. - The ship Phobos has a cached file SM_3_0_HI_3361_8_256.dds
Nether time could I view the Phobos icon in game, just a black square. == Support fixing the EVE UI |

Edited by: Xorphix on 15/03/2009 03:22:12 Confirmed, same problem. The newer icons after Apoc is being black. Resetting cache doesn't help. it shows a brief ! while loading image and then black.
Graphics settings: +shadows +resources cache -hdr enabled +bloom high high

Today I entered a wormhole for the first time. My first move after arriving and chatting a bit was to warp to a gas cloud. My client immediately closed just as got a brief look at a popup window "Information, Bountiful Frontier Reservoir". When I tried to log back in my client closed just as space became visible. I used my second machine to get myself out.

Xorphix, are you able to see any ship icons?
It looks as if we have Ubuntu version, Wine version, and video card in common. If I find anything to remedy this I'll post here.

Have to admit I haven't yet wandered into a wormhole, but correct, I don't see -any- ships icons in ubuntu, neither the probes, drones and corpses (and all the icons they have changed to bigger?)
we could test it on a newer wine, but my ventrilo is dependent on a msgmsm32 codec which (for ungodly reasons) doesn't work on newer wines. Just fyi, I run Ubuntu 8.10 on 64bit btw, not sure if thats a difference?

I had the same exact problem with w-space. My client kept crashing to desktop whenever the game loaded. I was going bonkers trying to figure out a work-around.
And I found it.
Run the game in safe-mode.

Installing version 1.1.14 of Wine worked. Icons are now showing. I'll be crossing my fingers on warping to gas clouds in wormhole space and running ventrilo.
Thanks for the foot work Xorphix. == Support fixing the EVE UI |
