Hi.
What¦s the BEST tactic to use when engaging for example: a NPC cruiser? Should i stay at range and hope to survive his HEAVY missiles or should i get close and personal and pound him with guns?
In that case what¦s close? 2 Km.....500 m or what?
Plz supply a noob such as me with a good tactic to defeat a NPC crusier.
Btw, i use a Thorax, currently with rails but if you have a better setup to go along with your tactic plz feel free to list it for me!!!
I need help!
Best Regards Darkcore

well, most cruisers i encountered dont have a longer range then 45/50km.
so put on some 250mm rails, get some tungsten ammo, and give em hell.
thats all... ___________________________ "what did that button do??"

Edited by: Directive on 16/08/2004 11:13:58 I'm relatively new (~1m sp) and for the NPC cruisers I get in lvl3 missions I fit either: a) High: 4x250mm rails, Iridium or Tungsten ammo (Iron just doesn't cut it for the 75k+ cruisers usually) small smartbomb Med: MWD Cap rechargers Low: Med armor rep 4x RCU1
b) High: 5x Heavy Electron Blaster with AM charges Med: MWD Web Med. cap battery Low: Med armor rep 2x Hardeners, depending on what type damage the NPCs do PDU Co-proc
setup "a" if there's multiple npcs to deal with, kill all I can from range and change to setup "b" if there's only couple npcs that I can tank or a single npc that is able to tank me when I'm using longer range setup (mostly the 90k/110k cruisers).
Those work for me anyway, I'm sure there's other setups that work well too, possibly 5xdual 150mm's, etc. I haven't tried 200mm rails because they cost too much to buy where I'm stationed, infact twice as much as 250mm's - maybe because 250's drop much more often (atleast for me - 10+ 250's, 0 200's).

Skill Train to a Carcal (Caldari Cruiser) Spamm 5 heavy missiles and kill anything NPC Cruiser you want... What I did
Thorax...Heavy Drones....250mm with Tungsten, as suggested... If you don't have heavy skill yet, run lots of mediums... Get your Scout Drone Skill Maxed..so you can get the drones to attack way out...and keep your 250mm's working at 40 plus...

Took out a Elder Guardian Sentry (550k) today with the 4x250mm's setup, so it's definitely very viable. Just remember to keep range with MWD when they get to 35-40km or so.

In a rax, equip whatever armour hardners are appropriate for race in question. If they are ammar then sit back and relax, stick an explosive on for any missiles.
I have a large cap battery, webber and mwd, plus thre cap relays down below and either one tech 2 repairer w hardner or 2 tech 2 repairer.
high slots use a mix of frig neuts and cruiser guns, whatever you can fit on with your skill. make sure you have 8 heavys, beserker and pretor 4 of each is good.
They have an escort of small ships, if they are short range take em out first, if they are the 10k (range) defenders or similar sod em off and take out the big boys with your guns and your drones. then mop up.
Practise this first on easy missions. If you have less that 1 mil skill points you will probably die and not be able to afford another one, so be carefull.
On the plus side, its dead good for getting the cans.
San. Character "Widescreen" is a scammer; beware.

Low Skill points = long range.
If you go for a balsterrrax set-up with less than one million sp you will get your 'rax popped.
If you use the 4x (or even 5x) 250 set-up with tungsten and stay outside 50 km then you wont even need to tank the 'rax. Fit an MWD to keep range and loads of dam mods

Edited by: Haratu on 22/08/2004 15:37:59 Since you are using gallente ships i would recommend using drones. Any cruiser can be taken down easily by 8 or more heavy/medium drones.
If you want guarranteed success of winning a mission then battleship (pref Dominix), armour repairer, 10 or more drones... guns are optional but make it easier. The armour repairer is simply a safety net and should be large or 2 mediums dependant on your skills.
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |
