Edited by: Adasel on 15/03/2009 18:50:30 Edited by: Adasel on 15/03/2009 18:49:43 Hi all. Just tried installing the new patch and im told that my computer does not support the new graphcs. So, tried the most basic solution and attempted to reinstall the eve client. However this only gives me the option of Premium Graphics. Can someone please tell me what im doing wrong, or do i have to cancell my subscription an start playing Warcraft ??.

Explinations are found here and here.
In short, the system requirements have been increased.

If you have onboard video, try updating your drivers.
Onboard video can be surprisingly powerful if you don't use the ****ty default drivers.

You guys all unable to play now must have some insanely old crapy pc (calculators) to have all these problems... lastnight due to having go bed early, all because, wife had guests staying on our soffa (friends realy ruin online gametime) I tryed to download eve on my kids E520 laptop!
Result was it didnt just instal! it instaled and chose to run in premier with setings on high/high as its basic default!
This thing only cost me ú200, so go out and buy one :) it's a great little cheep machine, for when you can't get to your gaming rig...

Umm Lady, I wasnt exactly griping about my "crappy" system. This old bit of kit has served me well the past few years and I have grown quite attached to it. However Eve-online is one of my favourite passtimes and im willing to get a new comp as soon as funds allow. You do have to respect the fact that some folks dont either have the technical knowledge or the funds to upgrade to a better system. You dont have to slate them for it.

I wasn't realy trying to slate people for it... as such, but with the amazing amount of "I cant play now you removed classic" posts i'm actualy quite amazed at how old or bad some systems, people are actualy still using, are and how they seem to expect a company to invest tons of extra work/time/money to keep them able to play, rather than upgrade themselves..
As I said a cheep ú200 laptop I bought my 10yr old kid, is able to play this on premium graphics... (that just the price of giving up smoking for a month or two or 5 cheep nights out to a pub and problem solved you get to play again :) )

I find it hard to believe that there are even still computers out there today that cannot run EVE. I have it running on some seriously underpowered computers just fine.

Most of them are indeed un-upgradable laptops. ----- Why doesn't anyone ever read the forums before posting? EVE is a game of adaptation and planning. Adapt or die. |

Im running a P4 + FX5200 + 1GB RAM... wouldnt call it a "calculator", some of you think we running 1980s stuff with a 13" huge****** screen and whatever but you wrong.
I can run Eve and "play it" but performance is a lot worse now, with same or even worse graphics (as I must set everything to low, everything looks worse than in old classic client!) only thing looks better is textures (stations, gates...)
The lag when warping or during a battle is awesome, so I found this solution: open the starmap while on space. Gaming experience sucks a bit , but Overview and ship controls are everything you need while on space LOL. Max speed when in star map

The FX5200 was a budget, low-end graphics card when it was released six years ago. In computer gaming terms, that is pretty ancient and underpowered.
I don't want this to turn into a flamewar about who has the best hardware and whether people should be expected to pay for upgrades, etc.; but the fact that you can still run EVE on such a card says a lot about the graphics cards it doesn't run on.

Edited by: Adasel on 18/03/2009 00:23:29 Thanks for the responses guys. Lady, once again you misunderstood me. Not once did I say "I cant play now you removed classic", or anything close. I actually asked questions related to what I thought was a technical issue on my part. Now that I know that it is not I will upgrade my system when I am able, which I stated in my first post. Why is it that when I have simply asked for help on a technical problem, you get certain people who like to try and bash you for whining in general?. Lady, you said people expect CCP to pay tons of extra time/money/effort or something similar along those lines, to keep people playing on older systems. When did I mention anything even closely related to this ??

Well of course it was a little rude. CCP decided to drop linux (no great loss as it never worked) and drop the old client. They did this to make their life easier... fair enough. In the process it meant that the old 5200 card i run on the alt box no longer was useful. THe upgrade had nothing I really wanted except the skill queue. It's the same game. wormholes suck. Really. But I have to upgrade a box at a cost of $100 or so to have my alt sit scout in a system somewhere... meh. I don't get any benefit, just an expense.
But hey, with some luck it might mean the guys have more time to fix the bugs which still exist in the pos code and such. We can but hope and having a single client is generally what I consider to be a good idea.
Oh, and THE NEW POS SHIELD GRAPHICS MUST DIE! of course...
BTW there is a tool, 3d analyser thet can make older cards work apparently.. should be a thread on it here somewhere

+1 to both the graphics being a pain, and the pos graphics.
I've turned the graphics down to medium, and my computer is more than capable of running eve.... but my graphics card JUST passes the requirements. I know what has to be upgraded, but when you don't have a job, buying stuff is expensive.
