So let me get this straight.
Assuming I have Marketing V and Visibility V:
If an item selling for 100 ISK is 3 jumps away, and there's a buy order for that same item 7 jumps away at 200 ISK. I would be able to buy the item at 100 ISK then sell it at 200 ISK without ever leaving the station? The item would just magically appear at the right station?
It sounds to good to be true, so I'm assuming I'm wrong,.

You would be able to buy the item at 100 ISK. No skills are required for this.
However to sell the item to the 200 ISK buy order, you would have to move the items to within range of that buy order. The range of a buy order is determined by the person who setup the order and nothing you can do can influence that.
This is because nothing magically moves itself so the person setting up the buy order would potentially have to fly to every station within the range of their buy order, picking up their items.
You would need Marketing to sell the item if it wasn't in the same station as you.
Visibility is used to set a range on remote buy orders (those setup with Procurement). |

Alright, thanks a bunch! I kept hearing about traders who never leave a station and I assumed this is how they do it. Thanks again. |

The traders who never leave station use courier contracts to get items to where they want them.
It is however, entirely possible to buy items in the station where you want them, sit on them for a while to let the price improve, then unload them.

...or more often, use a buy order to buy up the items then use sell order to sell them.
Profit off of peoples desire for instant gratification.

If the sell order is within range of buy order, it will be automatically fulfilled AFAIK, so, no you can't do that :P
Do not try and find the signature... that's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth... There is no signature. |

There are times when I look at the buy orders and I will see two of them that are the same distance from me. One is available for me to sell to (green on the market window) the other is not.
They are both 2 jumps away, any idea why that is? -------------------------------------------------- I collect everything...
...and strippers like me. |

Buyer one set range to station or system. Buyer two may have set range to 5 jumps or more.

Can it also be affected by the WTB quantity ?
Buyer one set his minimum quantity to 5 units, buyer two set his to 1, and your selling 3 of them.

The green highlight is not affected by the minimum quantity: the order will be highlighted even if you don't meet the volume requirement.
Obviously it will limit which of the highlighted orders you can actually use.
Minimum volume also presents the one case where you can profit from instant buy and sell orders in the same station: buy 100 units from one player, buy another 100 units from a second player and use them to fill a higher priced buy order with a minimum volume of 101 - 200 units. However, the odds of finding such a situation are extrememly unlikely: I have never noticed one in practice.
