First, I wanted to say thanks to everyone who has written all of the detailed scanning instruction threads. And, yes, I have read them all =]
I am still having problems getting over 50% sig strength when attempting to probe for control towers using combat probes. I have scan filtering option set for control towers and force fields only.
I have tried looking in a number of different systems using anywhere from one to seven probes. With my last attempts using the recommended four probe tetrahedron layout. All the probes looked to be placed as they should be, with each probe overlapping the next. And all overlaps concentraded on the yellow dot.. I don't seem to have any problems getting hits up to 50%, I just can not get any stronger results even when probes are at minimum scan range all around the target.
I got covops ship skill and all scanning skills at 4. Also using SOE launcher, x2 rigs for +10% strength each, and both 10% implants (strength and deviation).
Anyone else able to lock onto towers with these skills and/or equipment, or less?
I am finding it hard to beleive that something as substantial as an anchored and online large deathstar and all of its structures can't be located more easily under these situations. Am I the only person who thinks the POS shield alone should reflect like a giant lighthouse beacon and that a level 4 skillset should be enough?
Thanks!

Strange if you can scan other object types then you should be able to scan towers down too.
Keep at it I am sure you will get it. Nothing else I can say if you have read about four probe formation scanning.

Ehm, POSes are always always always at moons, and moons you can warp to directly.
And you can use the directional scanner at 5% angle to find WHICH moon you want to warp to.

Yes, we know that. But the question is, 'Why can't we probe them?' _______________ <Q> QUANT Hegemony QUANT is rebuilding, EVE-Mail me for recruitment info. Item Database |

Thanks for the reply.
This is all true. But I should be able to drop a few probes real quick and get a LIST of towers and or structures being used.
And, trying to directional scan dozens of moons would require way too many recreational pharmaceuticals (and beer) to be effective across a dozen systems. Showing either brackets or overview item for moons can get very cluttered. And with overlapping brackets, questions like "am I scanning this moon, or that one" arise.
Since my new Apocrypha pod didn't come with a cup holder (petition filing in progress), I would much rather sit at the incoming or outgoing gate with a beer instead of warping to a bunch of moons just to see if they have the sig my onboard scanner detected.
