Guys, we're a small manufacturing corp and we tend to mine the minerals we need.. but the problem is (i'm sure this is a common problem) for bigger things like ships, we need zyd and mega in large amounts.. any suggestions as to the best way of doing this?
As far as I can see, there are a few options.. either buy it for lots of iskies.. take a big risk and try find a spot to mine it, and hope some pirate corp doesn't come along and pod us all (6 peeps, 1 in fighting caracal, rest miners and haulers) or as I've heard some people, get a day pass to dangerous space from a pirate corp.. any advice from people with similar experience? or anyone that can help us out? we're based in Lonetrek atm
Thanks

another option but slower kill NPC rats collect loot and recycle "Requested items: One Mark V ECM unit, 1000 km of fullerene cable, one low yield nuclear warhead. Stated purpose: birthday party for Amarian dignitary." -Special Operations Service requisition form- |

Could always enlist a friendly anti-pirate corp into helping you into 0.0 or something for a while
ISK may change hands, it may not would depend on the person

Beware if you take a group out to 0.0 to mine - pirates (not the ones you might buy a pass from, but the unfriendly ganker kind) can see your "blob" on the map if there's more than a couple people in one system, and WILL come to investigate - the safer way if you can't get an escort is to have people all mining, but in different systems, so you can use each other as early warning systems.

Having been the small manufacturing corp at one point in time...
As was suggested by others, refining loot from pirates sometimes works, provided your needs are small enough. Unfortunately, you're going to find that that won't produce enough minerals for your needs. The market is one other solution, buying from the market at what are sometimes hideous prices.
You also might be able to work out some sort of a deal with another corporation that does have access to the resources you need and which needs more of the base minerals. Strangely enough, I'm actually sort of in that situation currently. Feel free to convo/message me in-game, we might be able to work something out. -D

you could find a corp that is in 0.0 that is willing to sell or trad zyd for tri... i know that a lot of corps that are on the out side have a problem getting tri and usaly have a lot of zyd. if you could work like a deal or somthing. ~~God is in his heaven all's right with the world~~ |

There's also the option of forming a truce with an alliance in part exchange for some minerals, say 5 to 10% what you refine goes to the alliance. This is an idea up to you to find someone that does it.
The most important thing to do when mining in 0.0 is watch local... if you see an unknown warp to safespot and stay there until they leave... also watch map for approaching blobs. -----------

Thanks for the all the advice guys, we're looking into some of the avenues you suggested :) as for recycling rat loot, we do that regularly, but it isn't anywhere near enough to build even 1 BS :(

oh, btw what do you mean warp to a safe spot? fly out to the middle of nowhere and create a bookmark for it so you can warp there?

Best way imho is to warp towards a warpable object, say a moon, and drop a bookmark whilst en route (i.e. still at high warp). Then to be extra safe you can warp to that bookmark and pick another warpable object (not your original starting position or warp destination though) then drop another BM en route and use this as your safe spot as it should not be on any direct line between 2 warpable objects.
Oh and do NOT keep secure cans at your safe spot for loot, spare ammo etc. else you may log on to your "safe" spot one day to find a small fleet of patient gankers who are handy with their scanners
Hope this makes sense, it did when i started to type it

Your People and Places Window has a handy new "Create Bookmark" Button, so that you can make a Bookmark directly from your ship. It works everywhere. Even when at warp. тттттттттттттттттттттттттт ROFLBURGERS тттттттттттттттттттттттттт

sorry for being the one to break the bad news, but your mining op will probablybe a disaster for the following reasons: Disregarding the fact that if you enter Alliance space without permits you will be taking a shortcut to cloning facilities we will move to the technical difficulties(except CFS, which is an open alliance if you play by the book) 0.0 NPC pirates can kill a battleship with no problem if he hasnt fitted his ship properly and/or he has no pvp/rat hunting experience. Two battleships will be enuff for your protection. After that, you will have to haul it, and without instajump bookmarks theres a good chance NPC will blow them up at jumpgates. Oh, and did i mention PC pirates? My word of advice is to find a corp/trader that will supply you with large quantities at bulk price. ----------------------------

Sadly true, 0.0 space closed to individuals now as corps "claim" areas. went out to a spot where i used to mine DarkO the other month and was told that not allowed to be there and was podded Helpfully told that i could apply for a pass but that it wouldn't allow me to mine rare minerals only stuff that was available in empire anyway, and that there was no guarentee that someone else in that particlular alliance wouldn't have a pop at my ship.
Managed to mine some over the a week or so of and on, it made mining more interesting but with losing a couple of ships and having to do some very odd hours it would have been more profitable to mine low grade ores in empire and use those proceeds to buy zyd. Still, it made a change from the norm.

Its not as dangerous as many will lead you to believe with the right preparation and intelligence. Don't bother with mining passes and all that blah. Your best bet for now is CFS, speak to one of the member corps (try Black Avatar) - tell em your coming, get in the channel and you will have / share intelligence on enemy movements. You will need to make or acquire instant BMs for the area or your not gonna last too long. You'll kick yourself you didn't do it sooner. My corp has been in 0.0 for some 3-4 months now, personally so far I have lost 1 Badger (on my first day in 0.0) and one Blackbird Fighting CA. My bank balance b4 0.0 averaged about 5m - presently its 275m
Edit : Don't take any notice of the scare mongers here!

If you want to mine in 0.0 get all your corp in probes or some other frigate with a large cargo space. Fly out to a nice 0.0 system with high end ores and mine untill you cargo hold is full fly back to the nearest refine station and repeat. There are refine stations in 0.0 such as the player owned stations in CFS space and the npc stations in other regions. This is by far the slowest way to do it but also the safes way. Losing a frigate for a small new corp is not to big of a hit. Npc rats are very deadily in 0.0 watch out for the warp scrambling frigates the BS you can out run/warp out.
Note. Alot of 0.0 is closed space (alliances live there and will kill you on sight) CFS is open space but I would not advise going there at the moment you will end up taken the fast trip back to your nearest cloning facility.
Just for fun go mine in fountain since there are systems with bist and a refine station.
