So... I managed to destroy my 8800GT a while back, and have been running an ATI X1700 as a temporary solution. Not great FPS by any means, but managed to run 2-3 clients acceptably (20ish FPS each)
The other day I borrowed a GeForce 7950GT, as an improved temporary solution, hoping that would boost my FPS a little. But the exact opposite is happening. I'm lucky to push 20fps in station, 40-50fps in space with one client open, and if I start a second client, it all grinds down to a slideshow. I'm using the lastest nVidia drivers, other specs is Core2Duo E6600, 4Gb RAM, Vista
Anyone else having issues with nVidia cards and fps?
As an aside, I also notice the client is having a lOT more issues with alt-tabbing in/out when in fullscreen after I started using the nVidia card... ---

Edited by: KISOGOKU on 18/03/2009 12:49:25 Did you clean old drivers after removed ati card? Sometimes everything doesnot uninstall and may cause driver conflicts .Try this, uninstall nvidia drivers first and clean both ati and nvidia drivers http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-(Setup)_d1655.html restart computer and install nvidia drivers

Firstly the drivers need to be optimized for that card, although nvidia will not say it, the older drivers can work better on such an old card as the 7950gt. I would not consider the 7000 an upgrade to the x1000 series from ati, i would consider it the same level to it. I have an x1300 laptop card and it performs better than my experience with a 7600gt. oh and alt tabbing out fo any full screen 3d application is a bad idea anyway. Its about Memory allocation by the OS on applications and teh residual ram that is left behind when swapped. It you are on 32bit youl never use all that 4g of ram never mind the extra memory you get on the 7950 compared to the x1700. to sum up its becasue compared to the x1000 series the 7series never matched up, they were kind of even. And an old graphics card will work better with older drivers. its just the way things are. ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |
