I happen to like the system I am currently in, and want to grind missions here for a while and stockpile an outpost. However, I also want my standings to steadily rise. When I accept these missions that pop up in my journal after I've done missions with a given agent for a while, I have to fly someplace further out, which interrupts my flow with the current agent. I don't mind doing these once in a while, but not necessarily with the cycle of frequency set up by ccp. However, the "This is important for your factions standings" warning sounds ominous.
Will I actually get a loss in standings if I just ignore the emails and don't accept these "faction standings" missions from agents in other stations? Or do I just miss the opportunity of gaining standings for that particular mission? In other words, is there any harm in doing missions when I actually want to do them, instead of slavishly following the timeline of offers in my journal.
By the way I understand I can decline offered missions every 4 hours without a standing hit. However this question is specifically about those "faction standings" missions that ccp has set up to seem particularly important.

The only "harm" in not doing them is that you don't get any faction standing increase… in some cases, that's even a good thing.

ok thanks. Yes, at the moment I am not interested in faction standings, etc. I just want to mission and mine in the corner of space that I'm getting familiar with. I don't want to fly to multiple stations, and get too involved in the racial wars between various npc's.

Some of them give pretty good rewards though. 8k Kernite for a +4 implant? Yes please!

You're talking about storyline missions, which you get every 16 regular missions, not 10. And there's no impact to your standings if you simply allow those missions to expire from your journal (for that matter, there's no longer any impact if you allow regular missions to expire either).
