I have often been alitle frustrated at how small fonts are in eve. i was wondering if ccp¦s programmers could implement similar function like i see in Firefox web browser. there i can press ctrl and + or - to increase or decrease font size. i have often wished i could do that in eve.

I would like an option to standardize the font for all my chat screens.. Now i have to keep clicking the + and - and compare if its the same. If i get a convo the font is ubersmall again!

I quite agree with this need. Given that the older I get, the more my sight worsens, it is hard, even with 12 point, expanded font and with any number of color schemes, it can still be really impossible to read certain text in the game.

I keep coming back to this game for 1 month at a time just to see if the UI has improved. I would love to play this game to death... I'm a fan of the genre and admire a lot of what CCP has created. And I am back again ... but doubt I will last past this month just because despite how gorgeous the game world is, the UI is an eye strain and it seemingly hasn't improved in the past year.
Many have been complaining about this stuff for a long time and I'm not sure CCP gets the message. This could be a great game with a more readable and functional UI.

Adding to what I just said, I spend 11-12 hours a day working on a computer (sad but true), and I have a 26" HDMI/DVI Samsung display about 18-20" from my nose. I have 20/15 vision - snellen scale, and despite all this I boot up Eve and it's immediately visually exhausting. There's arguably too much text on the screen and it's not quite readable - even when maxed out at 12 pt and expanded.
Would love to see CCP invest some effort in addressing this stuff someday, and I might actually get to enjoy this game.

I agree. We need some serious font options (Veranda or Times even) and size options.
I have a 37" HDTV that runs 1920x1080. I love to play EVE on it in this rez. It is beautiful! But . . .
Reading the interface is painful. The font style has always been marginally annoying because it is hard to make out and decipher. The size is HIDEOUS at 1920x1080.
An ability to increase the size of things like the font and the overview would be amazing.
It is becoming badly needed. More and more people are getting bigger screens. Heck, my 19" monitor at 1440x900 is still pretty challenging to decipher.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put this in the next patch or upgrade.

No wonder you can't see it. Your monitor is way too close for its size. You should be around 36". Bigger monitors aren't always better. Try moving back some or getting a deeper desk so you can fully see your screen. I remember when I got my 51" widescreen TV and my couch was really close to it (lived in a small apt) and my eyes hurt for awhile when watching it. You're just way too close to the monitor for your eyes to take it all in. While I don't think the font size in Eve is a problem, more the users and their setups, Eve should be more customizable. Btw, I'm running a 19" widescreen at 1600x1050 and I sit about 38-40" away from it and have no problem. My eyesight is no where near perfect and I have an astigmatism.

I appreciate the comment, but you're not getting the point. Moving away from the screen isn't going to make a bad font better, or tiny text more readable. This is a usability bug. If I was the only one saying it, I might think, OK I'm crazy and there's something wrong with my setup and/or my eyes. But the fact is there is just one font and it only goes up to 12 point, and the UI does not scale.
Since CCP hasn't really changed anything in this UI scheme except colors, and they haven't listed any reasonable UI modifications... I can only speculate on two things - (1) Eve doesn't have the talent to improve the UI or else they have prioritized piling on more content features than fixing the UI (2) long time / hardcore Eve players who tolerate the UI suffer from cognitive dissonance.
Maybe this is not the right place to opine... but I'm going to anyway. Since the time I first joined the game (which I guess was a few years ago) I've seen devs talk about a thousand thousand fixes and feature adds, and they've done cool stuff. I'd really like to experience that content and etc. But I don't remember an occasion ever where I saw anyone set usability targets for the UI, incorporate the complaints users have raised for a long time now, and make any progress towards improving those things. I subscribed to the RSS feed for quite a while even when I wasn't sub'd to the game. For instance - I'd argue a game like this should even have the option of being entirely keyboard-driven. But it's pretty much the opposite. It demands a lot of mousing. If any game could induce RSI from using a mouse, this one would be it. And I don't think asking people to buy TrackIR is the way to ease input pain.
Fonts and text rendering is just an aspect, but it's what I would imagine to be some low-hanging fruit that they could implement sooner rather than a UI rewrite. That's why I jumped on this thread. I am hoping someone will work on this finally.
Put another way, I'd like to give CCP money and play this game but the UI just makes it feel like a spreadsheet with undersized fonts. Just making the text more readable would go a long, long way. But I'm increasingly pessimistic about the chances of that ever happening.
Incorrectly or not the impression I get is that CCP doesn't care how useful the UI is, as long as it looks the part. But really, I somehow have my doubts that any civilization technologically advanced to warp through space would have a UI this painful. I'm pretty sure they'd have an option to change the font.

A UI scale slider similar to what (dare I reference this game) World of Warcraft has would be great. The UI scaler is still independent of text size though, at least in that implementation.
I would welcome either one, but in terms of priority the text needs to be more readable.

I didn't say that CCP shouldn't fix the UI. I was just listing some of the things that you can do to improve your game play and not suffer from headaches. People in the world today think that bigger is always better but monitor selection shouldn't be chosen just on screen size. The larger the screen the further you should be from it to allow more of the screen to be in your comfortable focal area so that you aren't moving your eyes back and forth to see the whole screen. ------------------------------------

After my monitor was throwing a fit because I did not run it at its natural resolution, I had to switch it to 1680x1050.
Now EVE is pretty much unplayable for me. Starts with the writing in the overview being so small that I can't target anything swiftly anymore (which is horrible in PvP, especially for tackling), but it also makes reading in general hard on the eyes.
It's not possible to play EVE without reading a lot, so please, please, please find a solution that allows us to adjust fonts to where we need them at. People have been asking for it for years now, and I have to agree that this is a game-breaking issue. It's completely understandable people quit over it, especially if they have problems with the eyes already. Microscopic font sizes can only make that worse. |

I fully agree.
Got myself two nice big monitors so I could sit back, relax and play EVE only to still have to push my face up to the screen just to read something.
A few more font size options would be most excellent
