I've read about some people who broke their GPU since Apocrypha.
So i was just wondering if the minimum requirements have been increased or some kind of new stuff that need more power or so...
I actually can only play with a laptop and i got a 9650M GT (1GB) on it.
I can't afford to risk to broke it... so...
Am i in danger??

Set "inverval one" instead of "interval immediate" in advanced graphics options and you should be just fine.

Yes its safe.
Simply put, if the cooling on any PC is not up to the task of running a program then that is the fault of the PC maker and not the software writer. Software (non overclocking software) is not capable of damaging hardware in and of itself, it can cause heat when using the hardware to its designed limits but the hardware designers should account for that and put cooling in that can handle it. If they have not accounted for it then its a poor design on the hardware part as they should know how much heat is going to be produced when the hardware is pushed.
I run eve on my Asus G71V laptop with a 2.53GHz CPU and 9700GT graphics, no problems yet and I have done some 6h stints before.

stuff should just shut down when it becomes too hot, it shouldnt get damaged.

I've run 2 instances of Eve while running another game and i ran it for hours before I got over heat and my system slowed. Most chips automaticly slow down if they over heat and will shut down the computer if they can't control it

Yes - IMHO
I have a Toshiba A135-S4527 (and an old desktop),..
While this laptop needs to be replaced since Apoc-X I have been playing EVE on it for 2 yrs. 20-60 hrs per week and
it has never fried or shutdown because of heat.
I am currently looking at just another $600 Toshiba, with no fear it will be fine. The Intel 4500M and MHD chipset graphics are Shader Model 4.0
Reasons the old one has to go: I have crash issues with deadspace acceleration gates into missions since Apocrypha. It barely meets EVE premium Model 2.0 shader specs with its Intel chipset 945GM graphics and gets me avg. 8-15 fps (so you know its working as hard as possible).
I put a vaccume hose to the inlet side of my laptop every 3-6 months and pull the lint back from the side I assume it has been collecting.
Note I travel 2 weeks on and 1 week home, and use the laptop for work in car and truck. I don't baby it with any added fan-board thing either.

That sounds SO much like my issues.. runs fine most of the time til I get anywhere near an acceleration gate.. then either blue screens or crashes my graphics driver and I have to reboot. Sometimes I wont crash if I remember to make sure I have everything minimized before I get to the gate.. chat windows, overview, etc.

I have a utility force my laptop fans to maximum all the time, and then I turn down some of the setting so it doesn't melt. Dell XPS M1710.
I clean the fans on the laptop thoroughly every 4-6 months. I disassemble the laptop completely for this (I'm experienced in this field), but I hear some people just use a shop vac on the fan vents after shoving a paperclip into the fan blades to keep them from over-revving during the vacuuming process.
I've fried one video card and the memory with overheating after about 2 years. Luckily it was under warranty still.
EDIT: Note that processors anf GPUs slow down on purpose when they overheat, as a method of self preservation. When that fails, a bluescreen often results. This is the prompt for me that it is time to clean the fans again.

Same story here. 945GM chipset in a laptop with BSOD to protect the hardware. My crashes haven't been limited to gates, but most of them have been when I drop out of warp to a gate.

If it's a DELL, don't leave your laptop with EVE running unobserved and have a fire extinguisher close by.

You can play eve with a notebook, but make sure you have lots of pages left, and a decent pen.

Hmmm lets see about that. Tested with a c2d e6750 2gig ocz reaper ddr3 and a gf9800gfx with the ginormous heatsink set at 80% fan speed that vents out the back of a case that has enough airflow to keep a beer chilly.
Crysis at full settings plays cool. vsyc 1920x1080 8x aa 16x af gpu @ ~50C
Supreme Commander at full settings plays cool. ditto
CoD5 at full settings plays cool. ditto
All the Half-life 2 stuff plays cool. ditto
Scads of other graphically demanding stuff plays cool. ditto
Eve in space plays cool. ditto
Eve in station pl.... Warning! Warning! Anomoly detected! Heat levels rising!

A 9650m GT is a very capable graphics card and is easily able to run EVE with high texture/shader at over 100 fps. Make sure that it gets some air though, if you have it on the lap make sure it can get some air. If on a table make sure it can get air, if not, place the back of it on a book or similar so it gets an angel where it has space beneath it to get some air. Some laptops don't need this but some need the extra air.

I play with my notebook and have no problem at all with overheating. Of course, I always make sure my fans are clean by blowing canned air through the heatsink periodically.
I also use a cooling pad when I play games that make my graphics card work. It does make a difference.

EVE fried my Dell XPS laptop. You really have to play on interval one, using interval immediate will kill your computer.

As has been said above - a graphic card overheating to the point of getting broken is a design error on the side of the manufacturer.
I have played EVE on my laptop for years and my poor old NVidia 7900 GS has to work under full throttle. It does get hot.
Works fine (even with the added layer of having to run through wine - I'm on Linux).

THIS works! Or can try to get your laptop a good cleaning and new heatsink paste, as it dries out commonly on laptops/notebooks.
