No hard feelings though. I was in PF-346 doing some scouting for possible mining ops and I lost a tristan with a 10MN AB... and a pod. It was kinda funny guys thanks. I didn't know my ship could go that slow heh
(That was my first time being podded ever, btw)

PF-346 is a pretty well known choke point. it's not a base of operations really. goto mapview and turn on Ships Destroyed in the Last Hour. It'll be one of the biggest blobs in eve.

It's low 'cause you're ruining the game for all the people that need to find out for themselves as well as making it very hard for pirates to operate, without any significant gain to yourself to justify telling the competition.

Low? Why? Seems to make perfect sense to me.
Besides...PF-346 is a perpetual hotspot. No secret about that system. If you are looking for trouble there is probably not a better system in all of EVE to go visit.

For some people tweaking the nose of the pirates who just killed them by annoucing to all where they are is sufficient gain to themselves.

Yes, ignoring the fact it's as easy as looking at the map to see where they are, don't tell people there is danger there. just sit back and LoL when they fly blindly into the pirates trap.

You arent pirates, your just cut-throats and brigands. Real pirates made there money and reputations as much by ransom as by murder.
Maybe if you moderated your bloodlust a little, people might be a little more charitable with you.

Edited by: Danton Marcellus on 17/08/2004 22:06:14 Regardless, broadcasting ingame events on the boards as they happen is low. If he wants it dealt with he could always contact his local piratehunters and see about having his satisfaction that way.
Board spoilers water the game down to a level that's almost Budweiser.

The Forrest Gump defense, frigates are like a box of chocolate, it doesn't fly though. You can always scramble and scan a ship if you want to be a real pirate but that's another issue.

That region of space, or more to the point the bottleneck sectors and the systems within 5-6 jumps of that area, are hot-spots because of all the Dark Ochre and Crokite that you can find there, and the proximity of refineries and stations. It's a nice area if you can dig in, but you should be prepared for casual podding. I got podded twice just exploring the region, and one of those times was due to an exploit on the part of the pirate; don't ask, I'm not discussing.
Nice region though, when cleared out.

Is it only the ships modules that get destroyed in the process, or some of the cargo too? The latter should be the case. I can't see the use of cargo scanners otherwise (except for npc convoy pirating of course).

These boards are an extension of the game. These boards facilitate communication and contacts within the game, Market, Factory and Eve Corp discussions are prime examples. If he or anyone want to come here and publicize in-game events, then that's fine.
So nothing wrong with warning fellow travelers and adventures of pirates or dangerous spots.
Do you think that back in the days of the true High Seas pirates, that when a merchant ship was attacked by pirates and he made it back to port that he didn't report it to the authorities? Or spread the news to his fellows?

and nobody knows that PF-346 is a hotspot for piracy...
but it also happens to be a VERY good spot for mining some things.
Danton, theres no sense to the idea that the "pirates" have some "right" to suprise people, or some garbage like that. its completely reasonable, and good for the community, to announce such things.
Quote: Why gimp a ship with cargo scanner? It is easier to blow it up and check the can.
that cargo scanner philosophically could make the distinction between a reasonable pirate, and a mindless greifer. some people care about such distinctions.
if you can manage to do your work in there when its NOT camped and such by whatever pirates are in the mood, (MF being the ones I've seen the most of when I've gone there, seeming to always have a person or two in the area, except when NORAD has the place camped to hell and gone) its a great place to mine Dark Ochre.

what the hell is that?
on the insurance front, why not have it so insurance is restricted to some areas (ie 0.0, 0.1+ 0.2+ 0.3+ etc etc) depending on say quality (amount of isk/level) and have it relational to the faction of the people providing the insurance (ie if you do it in a minmater station and they hate you then its gonna cost, but if its caldai and they love you its cheaper) or is that just silly? i am guessing it would be hard to code and also use lots of server side processing time, but you never know!

what the hell is that?
on the insurance front, why not have it so insurance is restricted to some areas (ie 0.0, 0.1+ 0.2+ 0.3+ etc etc) depending on say quality (amount of isk/level) and have it relational to the faction of the people providing the insurance (ie if you do it in a minmater station and they hate you then its gonna cost, but if its caldai and they love you its cheaper) or is that just silly? i am guessing it would be hard to code and also use lots of server side processing time, but you never know!

well I know from a potential victim's side, getting ransomed in a "we know you have something valuable, because we just scanned you" would be alot more... meaningful, than getting ransomed on a speculation that I have implants, or MIGHT have something valuable.
not to mention the distinction between getting ransomed at all, and being blown to hell without a word being said.
if I got caught... webbed, even maybe my shields taken down, or even armor damage, but then the attack halted, (while being held webbed and such) and ransomed after being scanned, I'd be a HELLA lot more likely to pay the ransom if I could, than if they just did it blindly. from a victim's side at least, conceptually, theres a respect for professionality, I think that could be had.
kinda like how it'd be alot less humiliating/depressing to be blown out of the sky or pirated by someone famous and EXTREMELY skilled, than it would be, to be taken out by some two bit newb who got you during a lag spike when you couldn't turn on any of your modules.

That would be you. 0.0 is a VERY dangerous place with some bad, bad people. Nice to see that you've taken it in the spirit of the game
Edit: You were podded without ransoming etcetera because a Moa jumped in and I needed my warp scrambler for that

I still think it's lame, yes it's a known pirate haunt and a chokepoint but some things people just have to learn for themselves, using the map or via their friends, or else we might as well have the billboards broadcasting this info for all to read.
How about you just go exploring all the systems in EVE and tell me where to find everything and I stay docked reading your report on these boards?
I don't know what system is viewed as the core system in Fountain, it's not in my sphere of interest so I frankly don't care, didn't register the jumble of letters this time either.
You guys feeling you need to know everything do you also play Monopoly with the chance cards text up in a spread so you can pick the best suited for your enjoyment? Games as far as I know include an element of risk, the gambling aspect.

lol i was in that mining op that screeny is from. Was just returning with my hauler when i stopped in the middle of that scene!! had a heart attack, turned around and legged it. Luckily no one from m0o decided an indy was important so i got away scot free.
Was fun, in a scary kinda way. My first "visit" from m0o, hopefully there will be more, and on more even terms next time
p.s. PF is ok at certain times (not saying which) but most of the time its camped by numerous pirate factions

A M8 of mine lost her ship due to Draximus Prime the other day. He said he couldn't resit to an Iteron V passing by a 0.4 sl system.
Well...The loss was hard...But that's the game...And as my M8 does, I think it's low to destroy a hauler...No fun in that me thinks.
He was kind enought not to pod her...He was probably trying to keep his ss not too low.... (\_/) (O.o) (> <)=Oveur (proof) "Jumping 50 systems I can like, have sex 150 times during that period" |

Somehow I doubt that this is true, sure you may escape with instajump but you might not be so lucky 10-15 ttimes since you have to jump back and then no instajumps can save you, not to mention that you could not be mining in the same system as us for a long time, let alone to fill up 10-15 indies.

I will confess that it usually isn't mOo that I jump past, but probes seem to have little trouble aligning and warping away before a battleship can lock them.
I usually call it a day if I'm ninja mining in PF-346 and the gate campers finally get smart and try smartbombing me as I'm warping into the gate.
Next time you see Thrane Xelor in PF-346, be sure to say howdy.
