Originally by: Yaggher Xanuben I would kill to get all the people on this planet to only use one and the same browser... be it whatever, IE or FF or Chrome... In developers point of view, that would be heavenly.
No it wouldn't. We've already been there — it's called IE4–IE6, and it was hell. No innovation. No development. Unpatched bugs and inconsistent behaviour. Unsupported and undocumented features. Complete creative stand-still that could only be solved by introducing more proprietary security holesplugins.
What would be heaven for developers would be a common standard DOM API and standard rendering so you knew that your code would work and would produce the same look no matter what. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in =v=… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

My company has started charging a premium of IE6 compatibility. The hoops one needs to jump through just to get things looking good in that one browser means hours of extra work sometimes.
The new Safari beta is great by the way.

Originally by: Jimer Lins When using IE8 (just released today) with the EVE forums, if you quote a post or write one that takes up more lines than the edit text box, each keypress causes the textbox to "hop" back to the top after briefly showing the key typed. Seems to be trying to scroll the textbox up, but each keypress causes it to snap down to show what you're typing, then some script causes it to snap back up.
CCP, you aware of this? My suggestion would be to adjust the limitText function, or maybe to remove the onKeyUp() call on the form edit box that invokes limitText().
Just click the compatibility button and teh forums work fine.

I just find it funny there are people who think the products they support are entirely safe from anything, thing is if there is a will there is a way to that end no explorer or antivirus is going to entirely save you from a very determined underminder.
Just that IE explorer has the problem of being popular, its an attention sponge that attracts all sorts of shady people. If either other web browser was as widely as popular they too would suffer from constant security hole poking as well.
Features however are something the to upspark compitition and create a persistent drive for better software, If IE explorer was the only explorer in existence we probably never get to see tabbed browsing thats now widely popular in most browsers.
Exactly if apple had 90% of market share it would be all about the apple hate same with linux.

TBH i have no idea why people even bother using IE these days its a pile of ****e :)
Because just like Vista, it ISNT a piece of ****e.. I've never had a single problem with either Vista nor IE. Never. Tried firefox once, hated it. Frankly it seems like most people are just going with the flow on the whole "microsoft sux!" train just to seem 1337 and enlarge their e-peen, while there in fact isnt anything wrong with their software compared to all the other **** there is (linux, ubuntu, firefox, opera etc). Feel free to call me an idiot, i stand by my opinions.

Microsoft don't suck as a whole, they have made some amazing breakthroughs, .NET/C# being major ones. But their browser team sucks hard, people spend days (read, me on a daily basis) building hacks into their websites to make them work in buggy Microsoft browsers.
There IS things wrong with their software, its just you don't notice them because muggins here spends his days trying to devise ways around huge gaping bugs for the clueless masses who still insist on using crap like IE6...'Because it just works' .. ahhh

Actually, IE8 passes the ACID2 test. It doesn't pass ACID3, but neither does FF. It's also a lot faster to render the EVE forums than IE7 or FF from what I'm experiencing.
Give it a try, you might be surprised at how well it works. I'm enjoying it.
It's a Microsoft product, no one will admit to liking it!

IIRC, when Windows 7 comes out we should see some nice changes since IE will no longer be a part of the OS and will be another app just like all the other browsers.
We could keep talking about this all day but you're too busy reading my sig instead.

I should have known better than to post something like this- I only wanted to bring it to CCP's attention. But the zealots always have to start their little holy wars, and they drag their fanboy mouthbreathers out from both sides to **** up the whole thread. This isn't about what browser's better.
I really don't give a diseased rat's ass if you use IE or not, or even if you like it. If you use telnet and manually type HTTP protocol commands (yes, you can do it, yes I know how), then go for it, nobody cares. I just was pointing out an issue, and I've followed up with CCP in an email, so this can now be closed as it's not going to go anywhere but further down the drain.
For those of you who offered helpful/constructive points (the compatibility mode tip especially), thanks.

I'm not sure when the last time you used Chrome was, as I know there were numerous issues, but after dropping it about 4 months ago I picked it back up a few weeks ago and I havent had a single issue with any sites I have been to.

Sure. You might also be surprised about a lot of other things. For example, why your modem is dialing a ****ty payline and why you have to go through an advocate to get your 60Ē back.
Given, that was years ago when they thought it would be cool to allow <embed> on .exe-cutables without any sort of user consent. Sure, nobody will exploit that.. no...
Microsofts first priority has always been the elimination of competition, not releasing a safe product. I don't see that this has changed.

Fair enough, but using a comparison like that makes me think you are the worlds most intelligent fly which in no way competes with the intelligence of the worlds most inept human.
In short, you think your above typical society but your comparison completely disproves it.

Right right I understand what it is. Still doesn't change the fact the crafty people can and will try to undermine it and filch your personal data. And when I said programmers I wasn't necessarily talking about the ones programing the browser code.

Doesn't take away from how much of a security liability IE always is just because of how integrated with the OS it is, i'll stick to safer browsing even if it is maybe like half a second slower
Nor the fact that IE doesn't support AdBlock.
