Races don't get bonusses.
Any player of any race/bloodline can train any skill and use any item.

Edited by: Tkar vonBiggendorf on 19/03/2009 22:15:42 Bonuses are tied to the ships, not the character.
For instance, the Drake (Caldari battlecruiser) gets a bonus to kinetic heavy missile and heavy assault missile damage. Bonuses are in the ship's description tab when you Show Info on the ship.
The other place to get bonuses from is your skills. The Heavy Missiles skill grants you a damage bonus per level of the skill.
Note that missiles are not inherently Caldari-only. Some Ammar and Minmatar ships make heavy use of missiles, and a few Gallente ships have some missile slots available.
Also, just because you happen to be Caldari, doesn't mean you can only fly Caldari ships. Anybody can purchase a Minmatar Frigate skillbook off the market, grab a roll of duct tape, and start flying scrap heaps. :) Any character can train any skill and fly any ship ... eventually.
I promise nothingÖ. --CCP Prism X |

So then when someone ssays that Caldari are Missile specialists they are really referring to the ships and not the Race. One more Q if you all don't mind. Where can I get a good starting lsit of skills for a PvE & Mission running Fighter Pilot, prefer Hybrid guns and Missiles so far.

theres not really a list of skills that you must have to do X Y or Z, if you have the skills to fit and fly a tech 1 frigate you can do level 1 missions.
Why not try looking at the certificate system in game, look at the info for your favorite frigate and go to the "recommended" tab, that will list the certificates (look in your character window) that CCP think you should have to fly that ship. We come for our people |

most veterans are pretty dismissive of the certificate system, i think it could do with some improvement, but its a good place to start your research. plus, everyone likes getting achievment unlocks :) We come for our people |

Yeah, though they are referring to the race by proxy (Caldari produce Caldari ships). But that is only relevant from a Lore standpoint.
As far as the game itself goes, your race has nothing to do with anything other than your starting faction and location. It also determines what your starting portrait looks like. It used to be somewhat important for starting skills as well, but Apocrypha did away with that.

Problem is, as many vets will tell you, the Certificate system leaves quite a bit to be desired.
For example, many will tell you the the SHield Compensation skills are fairly useless, and for many reasons they are - yet, they are required for certain Certificates, which means a lot of wasted training time if you pursue them.
AS to skills for a PvE/missioning viewpoint at first, well, some are obvious - such as gunnery skills - and some are not, such as the Ship Support skills that will enhance ALL ships you fly. The list of those (in no particular order) is:
Engineering Electronics Mechanic Repair Systems Hull Upgrades Energy Systems Operation Energy Management SHield Operations Shield Management Navigation Afterburner Evasive Maneuvering
For Hybrid Turrets, specifically, you want:
Controlled Bursts Rapid Firing Surgical Strike Sharpshooter Targeting Long Range Targeting Weapon Upgrades Advanced Weapon Upgrades (eventually, must have Weapon Upgrades 5 as a prerequisite).
Realistically, you'd want all of these (with the exception of Weapon Upgrades and Advanced Weapoin Upgrades) up to around 3-4 before you get into a Cruiser. The main support skills you want to 5 as soon as is convenient - they make a great difference in how durable your ship can be, how fast it can be, and how well you can maneuver.
The Gunnery support skills can be taken to 4 and left there for quite a bit, with the sole exception of Weapon Upgrades - it has to be trained to 5 before you can train Advanced Weapon Upgrades. WE lowers the CPU use of all weapons, whereas AWE lowers the powergrid use. BOth together will let you fit weapons that you couldn't otherwise fit - which can be a Good Thing.
Depending on what ship you fly, you may or may not want to take your ship skill high. The one that is a must to get high is Spaceship Command - you really need it at IV by the time you get into Battlecruisers.
Anyway, hope this helps you a bit - know it's a laundry list, but it's a list that'll help you be most effective. Plug 'em all into a planner like EvEMon or EvEHQ, and see what they recommend in terms of learning skills to cut down on training time. Just remember to train Learning stuff ALONG WIHT the useful stuff - training nothing buyt Learning at first will gimp you by the time you start flying real missions - the time is better spent spreading things around, so that when you get a tough mission, your usable skills are in better shape to tackle it than they would be if you trained nothing but Learning.
This I say as a player who got Worlds Collide (one of the toughest missions at any level in the entire game) as his SECOND level 1 mission, fresh out of the newbie quest chain
