Hi all, ive played for a few months on and off. I accidently joined the 'war' well before i was ready but soon as i un-enrolled i found myself in a random corp rather than the original one where there were alot of people who were good to chat to.
My main question is, can i rejoin the main gallante corp that i left accidently?

You can't get back into the school corp once you leave. Each race has a couple NPC corps that people not in a player corporation are sent into. I think it's based on bloodline and background.

Just a little clarification, that is not 'the main gallente corp'... that is a corp specifically for newbies, and most players leave it rather soon. As for the 'random' other corp, that is determined by your bloodline and career path which you chose on creation, and will be your NPC corp forever, so whenevr you are not in a player corp or a FW corp, you will be in the corp you are in now.

Is it really based on race/background? Because I started in the Cald. war academy and when I left I got bumped into the Deep Core Mining corp with 1 industrial skill and my starter training being special ops....

Yes, you start in the "starter corp" and once you leave you never get back in.
After that, whenever you are not in a player corp, you will always end up in the same NPC corp, based on your race, etc.

Race/Bloodline/Heritage iirc... And yea the corp doesn't always make sense, for instance my npc corp is some trade corp while I am a special ops character.
