Hi,
Is there a tool or app that can analyze the dump files from the market which break down where and how often certain items are being sold?
say for example i look at cataclysm missiles: in the market there are alot being sold from many different stations throughout the region. Is there a way of identifying the most popular station ie: which has sold the most and what times/dates these have been sold and in what numbers were they bought?
cheers
Iris

All the data is there... You just need to pull it into a spreadsheet, and sort by location, then tally up the totals at each location... But no sense in reinventing the wheel. Check out ombeys 2d map pdf (do a google search, you'll find it. He has his own site). He notes (with a red circle) which systems have a high volume of trade happening. Granted, his maps aren't updated all that often, but this type of data does change all that often either.

Pivot tables and pivot charts are your friend for spotting trends :)

I too have the same question :P
Is there any way to see which stations are actually selling what? I can look at a region map, but have less of an idea of what sells where. Also, when looking at selling in nullsec NPC space, there are different possibilities for spots that might sell well but its a bit hard to see what IS actually moving stuff. Ombeys maps mark no trade hubs in nullsec that I've seen... so its great for picking spots to sell in highsec/lowsec but not so good for nullsec.
I don't really know what pivot tables are, but just seeing the actual info on what is sold where would be good enough.

Only way of doing this is trying to sell in different locations and seeing if and where stuff sells.
Alternatively.... using the most powerful tool available to an eve pilot...their brain.
You can ask 1) what are the items used for 2) what activities are undertaken by pilots in the station 3) Are the items useful for those activities
if Yes to 3 then sell if No try new items or new location

... yes, unfamiliarity with a UI clearly implies we are mentally challenged. And no, that's not the only way. Exporting everything to spreadsheets and comparing volumes available works too, as long as you do it frequently enough not to get numbers skewed by restocks. I assume that's what the pivot table comment referred to.
Eve has a lot of powerful tools, but there can be a bit of information overload to a new user. With the region sales being visible... a breakdown by system might have been hidden somewhere that wasn't intuitively obvious. That's what I was asking about and I assume the OP was as well. Simply saying "nope there is no lower level breakdown" would have been sufficient without the OMG USE YER BRAIN comments + logic that is evident to a 2 year old.

To find out what is actually up for sale in a station:
1) dock at the station,
2) switch to the Browse tab of the Market window.
3) switch to Station orders
4) toggle the checkmark at the bottom of the Market window, to only show items available.
In the Browse tab, you'll only see items for sale in that station.
(Please forgive me if the directions are vague. I'm away from the game and can't doublecheck the interface. I believe that you can limit the Market window to Station, System and Region - I could be wrong). -----------------------------------------------
