This. There was a fair amount of confusion about how the box set GTC was going to be applied, and how existing players could get access to the special edition shuttle. There were some posts by CCP on the forums indicating that the shuttle was available to existing players who purchased the boxed set WITHOUT having to create a new account using the GTC included in the box set (that's why I got the box set as well...). Top it off with Atari releasing slightly different box sets with different instructions, and you have the recipe for a giant cluster-f...
So yea, someone screwed up in the communication department, and I'm guessing we'll never hear any admission of it. Seems to me Atari came up with the incentive, and didn't communicate the details to CCP (or changed their minds after releasing an initial batch of boxes), which explains why CCP posted erroneous information on the forums.

yea, made me reconsider getting the retail version as not all features can apply to current accounts allthough can sometimes find them cheaper than a GTC so worth getting it anyway

I bought 2 special edition boxes, found out I couln't have the ships, so successfully upset by eve online, way to go, 79,98Ç spent too, box seals are open therefore no refund. I tried the "use without special edition shuttle", and after ok, it just gave an error. So 80Ç down the drain, on top of that my accouts run out in a week or 2 and I have no money left to buy even more game time. EVE ONLINE, you have sucesfully killed off my characters, and all fun in this game by promising me special ships and instead just taking my money. Of course my petition doesn't show up in my account, and I haven't recieved an email. Who thought up this ingenious way to kill off characters and upset customers should be concerned about there future employment.

if you petitined CCP then they may have transferred the trial character to a new acct for you for free.
I was offered that for the Power of 2 account... although I never had the funds 9and still dont) for a second account....
Its good to know that CCP cares about its custoemrs to offer that though...

GMs are quite busy after patches. Not only do they have to deal with people like you, but there also are real problems to fix. The annoying thing is, they will spend (/waste) time answering your petition
Did they circumcise the wrong head or were you,and all your fellow parrots, just born this way? You do realize your self-congratulatory, CCP-excusing, and OP-condemning nonsense does not make you look smart. And it doesn't sooth CCP's feelings (I'm sure the fine CCP employees are accustomed to post patch blues). Also, it doesn't encourage them to appreciate you more or him less. You are aware of these things I'm sure.
The pandering in this thread concerns me because it seems the consumer culture has started to forget that they're the ones being serviced. We are all of us entitled to certain level of respect from the corporate world which includes all relevant information of said product being made explicitly clear. Unless you're trying to be the worlds most unquestioning perfect consumer let a person ask without ridicule "why didn't I get what I paid for". It's more than reasonable, its necessary.
