How can a new player even begin to acquire the basic skills he or she needs if the essentials like Electronics, Engineering, Drones, Shield Operation all cost ridiculous amount?!! 87 million for drones? 17 million for electronics? C'mon I am all in favor of some trader getting ahead by commerce, but to corner the market in starter sytems like Kisogo, Chaven, Duripant etc, and charge outrageous prices for even the most fundamental of skills is plain wrong. I hope a GM reads this and they fix it.

yep tried that, but I do not relish traversing through .2 and .4 systems to get them when I can find them cheaper, either that or the autopilot turns a 10 jump trip into 40 because I try to avoid pod systems. My point was I hope GM's realize there is a bad situation here. And if price fixing the books is not an option, then perhaps they should make them more available in VAST quatities in those systems to dissuade this type of practice.

Hmmm.. I recommend that you check out prices for "region" and not "this station only" or "this system" when using the Market.
The prices you are quoting are usually a "local" phenomena by scammers putting up an item in a "newbie" station/system. The prices are very reasonable elsewhere usually in the same constellation or region and the trips do not involve traveling through lower security systems.
Hope this helps you a bit.

and take off 'avoid podkill zones' or whatever. hit the 'prefer safer' if you want to stay safe. if you have 'avoid podkill zones' on, you will never get anywhere in this game. doing 40-50 jumps instead of 4-5 is not worth it to avoid a place where someone has clone traveled. --- 'Sweeden Steel Bite hard'

Visit a School/University station.
The NPC market will have placed pretty much every skill book in existance on market there, for either the lowest possible cost, or marginally higher than the lowest possible cost.
Alternatively, consider running agent missions for said schools/universities, they will drop skill books as agent reward bonus missions. -------------------------------------------- CONCORD: Kneecapping Pilots for Misdemeanors Since 2003 |

Yeah, when I was just starting in the game I could never find skillbooks in the starter systems.
I always had to travel to Jita where there is a School of Applied Knowledge. They had all the skill books and were always really cheap.
Learning that you need to travel a few jumps to get the best prices is part of the game that newbies need to learn. If I didn't have to travel to pick them up, I doubt if I'd ever travelled more than 2 or 3 jumps from Amsen (my starter system).

War Academy has plenty of books to - no doubt all the schools have. God knows where you are Salusa, but all the books i've bought have been pretty reasonable - though i do tend to amass some cash, then make a special trip and stock-up ------------------------------------------------

base skills that are being sold for several millions ? Even in less populated bases like Palas you won't find such ridiculous prices... Go to a 1.0 system and dock in any academy and you'll see that pricing isn't that high

Unfortunately it happens. I was in Alenia IV, Caille University this morning, buying my Learning skills, and the 'best' in-station price for Learning was 19 million! What's the point of trying to take advantage of newbies like that?
