Is it just me or have cloaks become near useless for scouting since the last patch?
The patch brought in (or fixed) the 2k from object - decloak, which is screwing with my exploration - was just interested to see if other people have had the same problems.
Often, I'll probe something out, and warp to 100km in a cloaked co-ops frigate to check out what i've found, before going and getting my ship to go kill it. This has worked fine for months.
However, since the patch, my ship is always decloaked when warping in for being with 2km of a LCO / Cloud etc. (Even though still warping in at 100km). Indeed, pre-patch i could warp to stargates etc etc and not be decloaked ever.
Now I could understand this for one of the standard cloaks maybe... but i feel that using the Covert Ops cloak (with requisite ship) should overcome this, or there is no real reason for flying one anymore.
Has anyone else come across this problem?

Cov Op Cloaks are still VERY, VERY useful. Clouds can cover a pretty big area. I have noticed that you can't always warp 100km to certain sites, I'm not sure if it is a bug or intentional, but it's pretty rare(Well in my case it is). But the 2000k uncloak range was always in effect just glitched out sometimes when next to a stargate pre-apoc. Besides if you get decloaked by a stargate your gonna be in jump range anyways so it shouldn't be that much of an issue. So my personal answer: CLOAKS ARE STILL SEXY

your issue isn't during exploration: warp in, warp out,before your up to speed bookmark the site. Just 'cause you wanted to warp to 100km of a sig doesn't mean it will. Many times you'll warp to ZERO. Adapt Warping to stargates and uncloaking is actually useful. No having to uncloak first just spam that jump button.

It's just you. And that you apparently only use the cloak for doing exploration. Surprisingly, there are other aspects of the game where warping cloaked proves to be rather useful.

Gas clouds can have ridiculous bounding box zones. I've been 70km off the gas cloud on Amarr station and been too close to cloak. Theres no way around this really.
Similarly, some sites will suck you to 0km (cosmic signature combat sites are the primary culprits here), with some cloud or object at 0km. There is no way around this past not warping in in a covop ship.

For those sites: Warp to 0 -> cancel warp -> warp to 100.
The site only spawns when someone warps to it.

Gas excluded (for the record) the thing actually uncloaking you is the warp in beacon, same in belts. That's what's broke.
Isn't it nice, that after so many years ccp fixed belts, moved teh roids far enough away to allow cloakers to warp in safely, then put down a beacon that royally stuffs them. ***The EVE servers and their patches*** |

Looks like this is being fixed in the next patch which is awesome news because I am just about to get covert ops skills in a few days. I am eagerly awaiting being sneaky almost unkillable and stuff.

Patch Notes
"Warping to an encounter site at range will now work the first time you warp there. Previously your ship would land at 0km from the beacon no matter what range was set for the æwarp toÆ command."

Also, shield extenders and i-stabs. Fit them.
