There appears to be a gap in the market at the moment for a channel where new players can go to find a corp or just a friend who can help thejm through the game. The official recruitment channel is overwhelming with ads for a new player and the adoptions channel is underused and gets more traffic from isk spammers than those genuinely wishing to help.
I have, therefore, just made a new channel, 'Mentors'. Its purpose is to act as a resource full of players willing to give up their time to help new players, both physically by flying with them and with advice. This may or may not involve joining the mentor's corp: mentors should be willing to participate without making this a requirement.
If you are willing to be a mentor in this way please post below with your experience to keep this thread bumped, and mail me if you are interested in being given operator status to keep the spammers (both isk and corp) out of the channel.
To join the channel go to Channels and mailing lists, hit the Channels tab, then click join at the bottom and type 'Mentors', without the quotes.

I agree with Tranka and have decided to help him in this venture. I'm always looking to help people when they're confused about this game as I know how confusing it can be. I started playing in beta and stopped about a year after release. But I'm back in the world of EvE and since I know what I'm doing still, it's very enjoyable. I've discussed it with Tranka and I'll be a Moderator in said channel. We can use as more as we can get to help us help people out.

I similarly agree with Tranka Verrane.
The game can be overwhelming when you begin, and can ruin the overall enjoyment you can get.
With the now mentors channel, people can be assisted in perhaps a more personal manner than that of other channels.
I myself will be available for help whilst online, and will also be moderating the channel.

I too started out dazed and confused ^_^
My own experience is a bit different than for many though. A couple of other newbies and me, who all began playing near my 'birth', started a newby corp to make our own ventures and the mistakes to learn from, without the aid of a corp filled with older players.
This was a serious amount of good fun and we still get nostalgic about the old days but it did came with a high price, heh.
When our newby corp got into its umpteenth war we finally decided to join proper corps and the information given there helped us all in great strides. If I had known of a channel like this one is proposing than our newby corp might still be active today :)

Sounds like a fabulous idea. I'm between corps myself at the moment and the silence is starting to drive me mad. Bumming around hisec and teaching new people a thing or two is right up my alley.
