Hey. Yesterday I started another (3rd) trial account and this time I didn't uninstall it before the tutorial was over. Actually I played for whole of the afternoon and evening, up until 1 am this morning. Oddly enough, I had lots and lots of fun. Coming from WoW (been playing for more than a year) this is something quite different, yet highly enjoyable. For me, the slow-paced approach is great. I'm getting older and this play stile suites me best.
Still, frustration reared it's ugly head.
I was doing a mission where I need to collect 1.8k units of Mercium. I go to the supposed location of the ore (via right click>set destination on the location link in the jurnal) but once I get there there is no Mercium. I also tried add omber to overview on the mission item/ore, but there is no Mercium for me. I have looked around the area and all I could find were veldspar asteroids.
Also, for another mission, I need to save some people and upon reaching the location there is no one to be rescued.
Sorry for such a long, first post. What I am actually asking is for tips and pointers for effectively getting around the huge universe that EVE is. I often find myself arriving at a destination, after 6 jumps and not remembering what I'm even there for.
Also, are there any corporations that accept low-level players? I started the trial yesterday and I have only 15 minutes ago purchased it. I'd love to be a part of a friendly corporation and have someone to answer my (many) questions.

Edited by: Ms Delerium on 23/03/2009 12:19:30 - Mining missions: yes, sometimes finding the damn asteroid(s) is the hardest part. I suggest fit a Survey Scanner I and use it, if no results are given, approach the rocks or structures and activate it again. Remember its range is limited to 10-12km.
- Rescue missions: normally these are "encounters". You need to kill the rats (red crosses on overview) and the boss will drop a cargo container with the people inside it. Sometimes there is no cargo container and they are on the wreck.
Another advice is read the whole mission text, specially the bottom part. Sometimes it gives out useful tips :) open Journal, missions tab, and right click your current mission and show info.

That's a great tip. Thanks.

That's odd, I don't remember any 'rats' in the area the of the rescue mission. Never mind, I'll look again.
Thanks for the quick and helpful advice.

set destination only brings you to the solar system. after arriving there, left click into Space and on bottom of the dropdown menu, you should see mission location with a warp to option.
also the same dropdown menu offers you Belts, which warps you to the asteroid belts in system, where you can mine |
