The only reason I have not turned to a life of wanton crime in EVE is because I have Offices and Lab Slots and I need to be able to get to them easily and a negative sec rating makes that more difficult, as it should. But what happens after it becomes far too costly to keep even one Office with some Lab Slots ? All my money is gone, socked up by high rental fees. Unable to find any lab slots at any price so I can make BPC's or having to absorb 10's of millions of isk per day just to be able to have a single Office with some Lab slots... Forced into a life of wanton crime and destruction just to have something to do... roaming around looking for peeps to gank - BB/EW and Blasterax until that becomes too boring then on to ganking BS's with Scorp/EW and DomCapSucker, etc. And I won't be the only one doing this... I would imagine there will be a lot of peeps out looking to kill POS's in a post-shiva EVEverse in which the only peeps who can afford to deploy POS's are the same ones who can afford to hold onto Offices/Labs even with rising prices. Remember what the Visigoths did to the Roman Empire ? This too will happen in EVE because it's the Offices/Labs in EVE that keep people from turning to a life of crime, at least this is true with me and mine. |

i think you (and many others) are getting scared to soon
lab slots will go up for a while then peoble (like yourself) will say they are to expensive drop them and slots will open up
the hoggers will either absorb those slots (and go bankrupt) or as they see slots opening they will drop their slots (as there are open slots there are no reason to hog them) that in turn will cause the prices to go down making it possible for you to pick up a slot again
just have patience give it about 2-3 months once the slot prices go way up peoble will have to give up slots (either cause they get to expensive or because there is no longer reason to hoard them)
i still feel that adding a component to BPC (like data sheets) and other simply items to ME and Time research is the way to go though
Thank You Paw Sandberg

Yes but we are all overlooking the fact that peeps in-game must cooperate to make prices fall because 1-2 Lab Slots must remain "unrented" in order to allow the other Lab Slots in that station to reduce in rental fees. As soon as someone comes along and rents the slots that need to be left unrented the rent will go up again. Also the richest corps in-game will be bathing in isk so they will simply rent even the most expensive Lab Slots and absorb the cost. BTW - the richest corps in-game can easily afford to pay hundreds of millions of isk for Lab Slots and more so for the Tech 2 Cruisers and Tech 2 BS's that will be out sooner or later. Even lowly "me" will hold onto the Labs me and mine have now until the cost gets really high at around 10 millions isk per day combined rental fees - it don't take too many L3 Agent Kill missions to make 10 mil isk a day and there is little risk in losing a ship while doing L3 Agent Kill missions - well at least for us, that is. |

I still belive that when the prices go up enough peoble will start falling out some of them will really ned those lab slots and will be crying others however will not be needing them they will just have to let them go and when that happens there will be no one hugging the slots (as there is no profit to that when there are free slots)
lets all try to sponser a let your research slots free day and you can all see what i mean

If you haven't noticed already, lab slots and factories that haven't been used since the last billing period automatically get taken off you and your rent is returned. If people only hoard them and don't utilise them the problem is solved automatically.

They simply place a shuttle bpo in it and set it to research to ME 5000. Should keep it running for say...2 months... ---------------------------

I imagine people will either pass the cost on to the customer by increasing the cost of BPC's and\or raising the price of manufactored goods to compensate for the cost of slots.

I have 3 characters with maxed out Science skills and can use 18 slots, and have the BPs to populate them (not shuttle and small ammo crap, but important sutff).
Lab slot prices are still cheap. Unless you sit in station all day, you can get the ISK you need to re-rent 18 slots for the forseeable future, you just gotta do something to get the ISK.
This is not a problem yet and will not be a problems for a long while (unless you are lazy or stupid).
