I played for less than 10 hours about 6 months ago, but I wanna start over and had a couple questions:
What skills should I focus on first? I want to mostly do mining, crafting and maybe super basic mission runs. I don't plan to PvP at all, though I may buy a second ship to go out and mess around with some.
Best race for being a trader/bloodline?
I don't really remember anything at all about the game

first off, here's a link that will answer all your questions about building and mining

for science, you need inteligence and memory, so those should be ur 2 highest attributes.
now for missions, its all dependent on what you wanna be using. Caldari use missiles, and all other races are either missiles/turret, or turrets. Caldari is the best for missions since you can change your damage type to kill rats faster. Thats the jest of it. Enginnering tab is where you'll need to put a good amount of training time into for shield modules and such.

In a word : Caldari
1) It fits the backstory
2) Caldari has lots of R&D agents
3) Amarr space (Caldari is friendly to Amarr) is much less crowded for mining.
4) Osprey is a good miner
5) When you feel like messing around with PvP you can fly ships like the heron and blackbird, it fits your character to be like a "scientist" pvper, utilizing electronic warfare.
6) Jita is in Amarr space. Trade hub.
7) Caldari race has pretty much everything you need for both PvE and PvP.
