As most of players knows (i think) EVE is rich... (lol)
I mean (eg.) it's database. Ships ships and again ships (mostly... if you'll close an eye on all those faction modules...). Almost every ship in the game has it's own 'skin' (ship materials... the way the ship looks - Raven, and Golem - same ship hull, different skin.
My idea is to give to player the power to change the ships skin.
Nothing big i think... Lots of skins already in the game... I'm not suggesting converting a BMP file to VTF (or whatever kind of texture filetype EVE is using) lol. You know what i mean :P Change your ship appearance from normal to more unique (change Ravens appearance to Golems, or to the Navy skin, or to the on of the other 30 Ravens in the database - NPCs, Agents...) Never outnumbered, never outgunned |

and add nŠ-n (n=number of player present in the grid) additional database calls for everytime a player meet other player(s)...no thanks. Near exponential functions are bad for single shard databases M'kay, let's imagine a sinple 50 vs 50 fleet battle we are looking at 2450 additional calls now let's imagine a 500 VS 500 nullsec encounter as it happens with a not uncommon frequency, that would make an additional 249950 call. Even then it's oversimplifying the whole thing still.
While I do agree it would be nice to have as a feature I'm not quite ready to have cascading node failure every time 2 0.0 powerblock go at it.

True... Anyway, the client needs to get some data from the server anyway, he could grab the skin ID/Name/Directory just by the way, same way he grabs player's ship type ID - only one time. Never outnumbered, never outgunned |

check the commonly proposed idea's thread stick at the top of this forum. It has a suggestion for ship painting and also why its not possible. Another idea is that you could look at the thread about this same idea posted Tuesday I believe it was.
If you are talking about just modifying the client, that is a breach of the EULA and could get you banned. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |
