Even though I hate MD snobs, thought I should post this here so no one gets scammed, got a mail today from a fake Ray McCormeck. Not sure why, though I did contact him once about a bond, so I do not know how the scammer got my name.
2009.03.26 19:41 Hello fellow investor
Please excuse the lack of personal address as this message is being sent to 47 investors on my current mailing list. To avoid the dreaded tennis Spanish bow (elbow) I have opted for a standard copy and paste all communication.
Why am I contacting the?
You have been noted as being one of the following - previous Investor, current Investor or previously shown an interest in investing in RAYBY
Ok, so why am I actually contacting the?
It has come to my attention within the last hour that a serious investment offering has become available and hence I am pursuing full capital backing with immediate effect.
Bond - 25b Coupon/Interest û 7.5% paid Sat 5th April @ 21:00 End date û Sat 4th April @ 21:00 (Yes itÆs running for one week, the shortest bond in history àààà.. maybe) Min Investment û 500m Max Investment - 3b
............. Cont in next email
2009.03.26 19:42 This is a buy/sell operation which will be completed within the next few hours once the capital has been raised, the selling of which will commence immediately with 80% stock from buyout already secured by a major alliance. I in visage the remaining 20% to be secured no later than Friday next week û hence the week long Bond.
I expect demand to be high and hence, apologies to anyone who doesnÆt get to read this before the deadline.
Any monies sent to me after 25b has been reached will be refunded in full û I will issue a separate communication once the total has been achieved.
ISK should be sent to Ray McCormeck
3,000,000,000.00 (3 Billion) 500,000,000.00 (5 Million)
No buy backs (ItÆs a week are you crazy?)
Any questions please feel free to ask, please be warned that due to popularity (not on my part, cough) I expect the total capital to be met within a few hours.
Anyone who sends me ISK once the capital has been met will of course receive a full refund

Someone please petition the character Ray McCormeck (spelled with an 'e' instead of an 'a', or possibly an 'i' instead) under the harrasment category as impersonation. I cannot currently login.

Actually I fell for it. Was dead tired from being up late last night and Ray is one of the few people I'll support without needing much in the way of assurances. Name was close enough and so was the mini-avatar that loaded. You can't avoid them all. Just a shame that name and avatar impersonation was used to facilitate this scam. Shame because the person did an excellent job of it but did it too well. Impersonate a valid operation, yes. Do identity theft, no.

Impersonation means everything scammed will be returned to the rightful owners, just like fake ebank clones.

Petition your loss, it's a EULA violation. |

Can you please point out the section of the EULA this falls under?

Edited by: Armoured C on 27/03/2009 02:20:19 # Impersonating another forum user, moderator, volunteer, administrator or CCP employee is strictly prohibited.
You are expressly forbidden from impersonating anyone else, including those named above, on the forum or in the game, even in jest. This may be grounds for permanent loss of your Eve account.

EBANK Ricdic has been copied for scam purposes probably about 50 times in the past year. Every time a petition has been met with swift CCP action. In at least one case a person sent cash to the scamming character and petitioned and received his money back.

I wouldn't even pay that a month.
Regarding the impersonation and refunds, several times in the past GMs have renamed characters trying to impersonate BIG Games of the BIG Lottery and have reversed any transactions.

Of course, good Sir:
Originally by: http://www.eveonline.com/pnp/eula.asp Section 2 - Subsection B
[...] No player may use the character name of another player to impersonate or falsely represent his or her identity. [...]
And I can confirm that whenever EBANK petitioned an impostor, he was renamed. Though it's in the hands of those that got scammed to file their own petition to get their funds re-imbursed, as we as EBANK cannot request this on their behalf. At least that was the tone of the petitions we received. --------

Without disclosing any GM comments of any kind I'd like to share these points to update everyone:
1 - Name Impersonation Petition was closed the 27th of March. (1 day after this post)
2 - Toon was made deceased 27th of March.
3 - Compensation Petition was filed 29th of March.
4 - Isk returned 3rd of April.
All is well, no complaints.
However I think this thread should be put into the resources thread as an example that this simply is a non-profitable and unacceptable practice.

2009.04.03 13:49 This is an official warning for impersonating another player for the purpose of soliciting ISK meant for him. This is a violation of the EVE Online EULA, and as such the ISK has been removed from your character and moved back to the victims.
I still refute that I am a scammer - chuckle
