I'm sorry if this has been beat to death in the forums, but I just had to know the truth once and for all.
According to this article at slate.com, 8% of Icelanders believe in elves and the government requires certification that a property is free of elves before construction can begin. CCP, did you ever have any problems with the little people? Devs, mods, anyone... have you ever seen any elves at CCP HQ?
Just wondering...

I would think the number of Elf sightings was directly linked to the amount of Beer consumed.

To be honest, this is no more ridiculous than the belief that a magical jewish man died and became a zombie so we could all go to heaven.
No wait, it actually makes MORE sense!

I don't think I committed to one side or the other... in fact, the OP is more of a request for more evidence...

Try telling that to the people who believe in the Zombies.

Rather, everyone else fails to effectively say that god does exist. -

Nothing can be proven.
Evidence are the bricks of any belief, religious or otherwise, and faith is the mortar.
Now, since this is turning into a religious debate... all I can say is, IBTL.

It's not stupidity, it's a person's lack of either evidence or faith or both... in my case, I do believe in God, but not in elves, but if I became aware of enough evidence and faith to overcome my doubts that elves exist, who could say I wouldn't?

Can you prove that?
Everyone should just invisibly preface everything that everyone else says with "I believe that..."
If you require proof for everything, I don't see how you can believe in anything.
Evidence? Yes. Proof? There's never enough.

I prefer the scientific approach. Nothing can be proven for absolute certain, but a theory which has significant predictive power and no counter evidence can be accepted as true until such time as it is shown to be false or lacking.
That predictive ability is what sets apart ideas which are proven in the non-absolute sense and mere beliefs. Even if they can never prove anything for certain, they allow us to ascribe a structure to our perceptions, structures which usually hold true in a limited context even after they are show to cease to function in a greater context. -

Fortunately for technology, that approach works great for scientific laws and mathematics. Personally, I think it will never be a sufficient way of handling questions dealing with the unobservable, for instance, life after death, the existence of a spiritual realm, etc., or cases where the trail is so old, that data and evidence would be difficult to find.
Does everyone need to wait for the high priests of the scientific community to prove or disprove something in order to believe something? Of course not. Many people gather data every day, and form, tear down, and rebuild their beliefs in things every day... some are minor, some are major beliefs. Some people don't and live their life on autopilot.
I don't want a scientist or a priest to tell me what I should believe, personally. Science seems to be evolving into its own religion of sorts. If a scientist or a priest has something to say, though... I will gladly hear them out.

I didn't mean to imply that science can or should try to explain everything, merely that with the right method we can manage more than beliefs for at most things. As for the rest, that as you say is up to the individual. -

Sorry, I didn't mean to put words in your mouth. It's just that I get bothered when the scientific method comes up in a debate over God's existence. We both seem to agree that science can't prove or disprove things like that and I'm glad we both agree that those areas are up to the individual, whether talking about God's existence or elves.
But back to the topic... anyone ever see any elves?

Sadly this is a problem not just confined to Iceland.
Elves, and many other races commonly held to be mythical, have been increasingly marginalised in modern society and their community sites stolen without recompense by avaricious developers. This has resulted in many elven tribes being displaced, leaving them without a gnome to go to.
It doesn't help that Elves are notoriously publicity shy and have as little to do with humans as is elvenly possible. This has result in a complete lack of representation of their interests in government at both a local and national level.
I propose that in each of the nations affected, a National Elf Service is set up, to ensure the well being and safeguard the rights of these indigenous peoples that have been sadly overlooked in the rush to cover the world with little brick boxes.
They came for the Centaurs and I did nothing becasue I was not a Centaur, They came for the Trolls and I did nothing becasue I was not a Troll (stop s******ing at the back), They came for the Goblins....
...you see where this is going? We have to act now before it is too late.
Incidentally, before I am accused of having a vested interest, I would like to point out that I am not actually a Goblin; I just have a nosebleed.
