Change is afoot with our ever-popular API. CCP Elerhino details the addition of the skill queue to the API, as well as some recent fixes, such as the return of missing implants and certificate tree updates. You can read all about it here in his latest dev blog.

Anyhow, on a serious note: Elerhino, please for the love of all that's holy could someone look at the caching mechanism on /map/sovereignty.xml.aspx ? It's static data that's only updated once per day, and yet the 6 hour timer means that I usually can't update the influence map before 18:00 just because of the fact that it's usually throwing me old data. I would give just short of my left-<insert body part here> if you guys could do something about that because it's the only thing stopping me from having the map up shortly after DT instead of a fourth of the way through the day. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

Quote: SkillInTraining now uses information from the Skill Queue and will be removed soon(tm) so we suggest 3rd party developers start getting this information from the Skill Queue.
Will you fix API lying about current skill in training first? I see enough complaints on BC and EG about skills not starting training from queue, and petitions for SP loss left unsanswered. -- Thanks CCP for cu |

Nice to see Elerhino still exists. Maybe we'll see some actual documentation soon rather than relying on guessed third-party documentation? Maybe the many feature requests on the eve-dev wiki will get looked at? Feedback and development on the API needs to go at a faster pace than devblogs allow. There are piles of bugs in the API that either get ignored, marked as a feature or simply filtered out by bughunters. Why not come to #eve-dev on IRC and discuss things there rather than giving us a devblog once a year? Plenty of your colleagues are there, just none of the API related ones sadly. We used to get Lingorm, and your predecessor's predecessor (CCP Garthagk) is still there despite not working for CCP any more. It's not exactly asking a lot to open up to the community to this extent, and it'd mean the world to API developers to be able to talk to you in realtime. -- Ix Forres EVE Application Developer ISKsense | EVE Metrics (NEW) | I Tweet |

Love the skill queue thing, got that implemented fully now, for monitoing my characters.
Also a good thing that you moved the bottleneck from the DB to the API servers, in all honnesty I rather see the API servers rollover and die then the TQ DB.
Oh, what is the chance of getting more information out of the API? Things like mentioned on the EVE-Dev website? Is there anyone in CCP actually assigned to maintaining/improving the API or is this more of a hobby project that a dev does when ever he/she gets tiered of messing abou with the TQ code? ------------------------------------------- Should you disagree with me, well I guess that is because I disagree with you. If you have a problem with that please feel free not to tell me. |

Funny to see EVE running in to the same problems and coming up with the same solutions as our own software and admins. Either we are all being idiots, (puts on tinfoil hat( you have alt spies in my sysadmin teams, or we both have got good sysadmin teams. I'm hoping the latter

+1 to Tonto Auri's post. Every Eve-player I know personally has been bitten by this bug. Do you even test the API before you release the expansion?
And what's going on with the Singularity Test API Server?

There you have it: RSS feed of DevBlogs. Add it to your favourite RSS aggregator/Mail client and as soon as the feed is updated you'll know it. ----

cant wait to see the queue in eft as well, had a few, okay did I queue something up, I think so time to log in and check though moments.
now can we get some market history exports (let me guess, no as they would be database crushing?)

Just a plug for **not** removing the old skillInTraining API interface. While I've already updated EViE to display the queue, there are some annoying gotchas with writing applets on the iPhone that make it really convenient to have both calls. In particular, you can't run more than 5 seconds of CPU processing an AJAX reply, so having the "current skill" call and then later being able to fetch the queue makes life a bit easier.
The new skills in the skill list were actually pushing me over the 5 second limit at one point!

I'm not entirely sure what CCP has done with API, but Evemon keeps misreporting skills now. Completed skills have 7-18 seconds left on them, and paused skills get reported as completely untrained when the skill is restarted. Not to mention how Evemon reports a paused skill as completed occasionally.
I see similar symptoms in Eve Commander and others report problems with Eve Meep.

Sad to see that CCP is apearantly ignoring the userbase when it comes to the EVE API. At least some small response from a the development team would have been nice to see. Somehting like we are working on A or B etc.
In stead the community gets a single barely 4 line post after months of nothing, and an API that seems more broken then working. It is sad to see a company that was once so good at communicating with the community let them selfs slide. I hope someone within CCP will wake up and sort out this communication mess that is the API development.

Zhe skillqueue really behaves unpredictable without extensive documentation. Sometimes the first skill shows correctly, sometimes not. Later queued skills are always listed as starting from their lower level boundry skillpoints, starttimes are completely unpredictable and so on.
It is (next to) impossible to get the current skillpoints from the api. _________________________ EveAI.Live - The EVE-Online API/class library for .Net, C# and VB.Net |

Originally by: CCP Elerhino soothed the Gods of Performance and their appetite for disconnecting the API. At least for a while
This sentence is a bit concerning, while I understand that overall EVE performance is primary, and I am happy to see that the workload has been moved to the API servers, I hope that there is not serious discussion on shutting down the API's as a whole.
I am really hoping there are many more API's to come, i.e. a view into the market (not the market history like has been requested on the dev wiki http://wiki.eve-id.net/API_Wanted_Features#Market_History.
However many of these items I believe can be an "as of" view vs. a realtime view. Hopefully we can simply hit a different database that is only refreshed every x hours (even if it is 24 hours) to get around some of these issues. I would really hate the see the API be disconnected.
