Edited by: Janya Rykayn on 27/03/2009 13:26:11 You know, Eve can be a very frustrating game.
But one way or another, you'll be back. When you quit, find that you're already destroyed for all other games, and you come crawling back to Eve for the 8th time, you will regret that you left.
Solution: don't leave. Suck it up and make some fun for yourself.
My advice: join a pirate crew. They will be able to put you to work early on flying frigs with warpscramblers on them, you will make fair isk most likely, and you will get a massive adrenaline rush.
Yesterday was kind of annoying. I'm in wormhole space, and I find out that my drones don't work at ALL against Sleepers. But I'm not going to quit.
This is not a game that's going to spoonfeed you. You WILL spend some of your time in Eve bored, but on the other hand there's always something to do, and you can run three alts on one account. Me, I'm about to start running two accounts simultaneously...

Huh, I expected it to say "Don't let the door hit you on the way out" or something to that effect.
This new, friendlier EVE forum is strange and confusing.
But the optimism you instill in the noobs will make their inevitable ragequits all the sweeter. -

We all want more targets. This requires planning ahead and allowing the fields of forum wrath to lie fallow occasionally so that the new seedlings can take root.

join a no-nonsense pvp corp , fly frigate blobs on enemies and just live of their loot, its how I started eve and I enjoyed it alot :).
manage to get 1 or 2 t2 mods and you'll be able to get 2 or 4 new friggies !
just don't bother with cruisers yet , those are too expensive in your first months .
it is alot of fun , just join a playercorp. they stole my sig :'( |

Join Eve University, they'll teach you the basics.
Never use large drones against sleepers, they get insta popped. Only small's and mediums, preferably t2.
Always read the entire contract before accepting. Never send isk to anyone unless you dont care about loosing it.
When in doubt RUN.
Loose at least one ship a day for your first month, it builds up an immunity which lasts for as long as you play eve.
Loose everything at least once in your first month. Get back in your noob ship and mine veld for 2 hours cursing your stupidity. Builds immunity.
NEVER FORGET TO UPDATE YOUR CLONE ! There is only one true crime in Eve and that's not having an up to date clone. Everything else is insurable or replaceable.
Oh, and dont skank in local or on forums. It's just not dignified. We already have anough chip tards we dont need more.

Never undock in a ship which you can not afford to lose.
Always get full insurance on T1 ships.
Never haul more than 20 million ISK worth of goods through Jita (or any high population system) in a T1 hauler
When in low sec, always use warp to zero and never use autopilot
When in 0.0/low sec, never go AFK unless you are cloaked and safespotted (or docked)
Always check the map for gate camps/hostile areas before traveling through 0.0 or low sec.

Even a basic frig with a t1 warp scram and t1 webber is a viable tackler... give him some t1 blasters and faction ammo... and you have yourself a handy fleet tackler once he learns the piloting aspect. ( And that does not require any training other then your own mental abilities.)

Join anything at your own peril.
Or go solo and carve out your own piece of the Eve universe.
When you get some decent skills trained and have some Isk stashed you'll be a more valuable asset to whatever corporation you may have an inclination to sign with.
Thousands upon thousands of players have gritted their teeth after facing down adversity and made Eve a great place to escape for a time from RL.
Invest everything you have into a brand new ship and fittings. Then think how you careful you'd act if you flew deep into low-sec space. That's how careful you must be in selecting a corporation to join.

Don't read the forums. They're just like the forums in any other game - filled with crass and childish comments.

To new players, you spent the cash for the boxed game, you have 2 months of game time. Consider how you see yourself. Do you want a cookie cutter game that has nothing unique and has zero risk because you are to much of a baby to handle real loss OR do you see yourself having a pair and more then 2 braincells to rub together?
If you want easy, brain dead gaming for the masses, go play wow. If you want to be just like everyone else, go play wow. If you don't got a pair, go play wow.
Now for those able to read a paragraph and think they have a pair and a few braincells left over, realize that EVE is a hard game to get into. Not everyone is going to have the ability to get through all of the intro stuff. Not everyone is going to man up and go pvp in stuff they will lose for good. Not all of them can suck it up and accept a bitter defeat.
Skill points and isk only get you so far. One allows you to use and fly ships. The other allows you to buy the ships and the weapons and fittings for ships. You can have billions of isk and tens of millions of skillpoints but be the most worthless mutt around.
You can have just enough SP to get into a frigate and mount a warp scram and webifier and be a threat. You won't be a threat on your own but you will be if you find a group to pvp with. Since you bought the boxed game you can join a militia which is to join a war going on and have loads of people with the same thing on their mind, to crush the other side. In that group you'll find people willing to help new players out. WHy? because if you stick with the game you could be a valuable asset to the group, regardless of isk and SP<skillpoints>.
If you haven't guessed already, its all about what you are willing to do , not what you have while hiding. Be a scout, be a tackler. If you get popped, feel free to mention that you are new and broke. Chances are someone will be willing to toss you enough isk to cover your losses. If so , make sure your clone is updated and get a new ship and rejoin the group.
I'm in the Caldari militia. To me Tacklers are important. I don't care if you are in a t1 frigate barely able to use that warpscram or if you are in a pimped out interceptor. Just as long as you lock down the target long enough for me to also get a point on the target and start blasting away with the rest of the group. If you help me and others get kills, you'll find yourself with some new friends real fast. I don't care if you help me and others kill a t1 frigate or t2 battleship, we all want to pad our kill counts and tacklers are an essential unit to a fleet. No tackle, no kills, no kills= no fun.
As for noobs on the other side, yes we want to kill you. we want to kill you till you cry. Its just the way it is. Thing is the more players there are the more fun to be had. We dont need you to stay. We might not even like you. But we want you to stay because you may just end up on our killboards. Down the road or if you have the guts to join a fleet to pvp, we all might end up on your militias/corps/alliance's killboard.
In EVE you gotta push to have fun. things aren't thrown on you, theres no friendly elf in need of giant rats' tails so he can make a potion to turn into little blue pills so he can be happy. You gotta work for the fun in eve, which sounds annoying but worth it. SO if you liked pvp in wow or another mmo , you'll be cracked out on eve pvp.
