I just got time to play this game. I cant seem to find the drones to kill in the first combat mission. There must be someway to search for them that I am missing. I look on the radar and dont see them there either.
I go to the journal place, but they are never there.

I am not 100% sure on this, but try warping to the Tutorial place.

I think its the "Training Grounds". It'll be a triangle icon on screen.
Also, are you using your scanner? Put it on auto and go to settings. Then click on the drones in that setting list.

First combat mission, if I remember correctly, you undock, open people and places, switch to the places tab, rightclick on the Bookmark given to you by the agent, and choose warp to 15 km. Drone will be there. It's the one with the viral agent, right?
Second combat mission, same thing, but it's in a different system, so rightclick Bookmark, and choose Set Destination. Then turn on your autopilot. Once you get there, rightclick the bookmark again and warp to.

I am assuming you going to the appropriate area but when you get there you see no rats? In which case you probably don't have your scanner setup to show Pirate Drones. Check all the settings of your auto scanner (the button is on it) - Tick the box show pirate drones / faction drones or similar (can't remember exact one). Hell tick everything until you find what suits you.
