hi friends, cat here

You will run under your real name with an EVE identity for other to relate to.
I have submitted my application and done all the required things but now i wonder something. Do you vote for the person or the character? i mean that on a personal level, do you vote on the player or the character?
if a csm candidate has other characters that may or may not be famous in their own right should they be declared?

I'm sure it's the name of the character. I doubt that Lavista Vista guy and that woman called Ankh[????] are their real names. ---

Edited by: Aloriana Jacques on 27/03/2009 23:01:07 Both are shown when it comes time to vote. You see a list and all relevant info next to the character portraits for all listed applicants.
Real names are required for registering for exactly the reason of alts. You need to register with your legal name because if you do win, how else are you going to verify who you are when it comes time to go for the meeting? It also eliminates the possibility of multiple alts belonging to the same person all running for a better chance. - - - Aloriana Jacques - Skill Sheet

Edited by: Cat o''Ninetails on 27/03/2009 23:02:54 i understand both of the above points, but what i am asking is will people vote on Joe Bloggs (who is an awesome person, friendly, helpful etc) or will they vote on Mr GankKillDeath, who is a complete jackass in game? While Joe Bloggs may have a fleet of carebear alts who are as well known or better than Mr GKD

They vote on what your proposing to bring to the game and csm not the character or the rl person.

This. If the masses do not want what you are going to "bring to the tables" then they will not vote. We dont care if you are broke or rich irl, or what you are famous for in eve, or even if you ARE famous. ______________________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Ah, sorry, misunderstood.
No, a name is a name. What people vote for is what you're position is on issues, what your pet projects might be when you get onto the council, what are your opinions on this and that. People will always vote for someone who they can relate to, and who's goals and interests tend to coincide with their own.
Example; someone who only talks about improving pvp, removing all high-sec safety, increasing pvp rewards, etc., may find it very difficult to win the carebear votes.
It's all politics really. If you ARE well known as someone who HATES pvp, then turn around come election time and say you pvp everyday and pwn them carebear noobs, people might raise and eyebrow and wonder about this shift in perspective. They might as themselves if said person really means it or is just blowing hot air to try to get a few votes. - - - Aloriana Jacques - Skill Sheet

As far as the issue of multiple characters and their respective reputations, I think that people expect you to run with whichever one represents your platform as a CSM candidate, or at least one that has the most recognition. Your character's reputation, be it in-game or on the forums, can give people a clue as to your level of expertise with EVE, as well as insight into your personal demeanor. In my opinion, attempting to use more than one character to present your yourself isn't very compelling. Really, it comes down to who you are as a player, not who you are as your character(s).
The ideal rationale for choosing a CSM candidate would be that they represent the voter's wants and desires for the future of the game, that they possess the ability to discover and address tough issues, and that they are well educated and intelligent when presenting themselves. That doesn't always happen and it can come down to whoever wins the popularity contest, but you shouldn't underestimate the IQ of the average voter either. ___________________________________ Always enjoy your virtual synthetic psychotropics in moderation. |

If you're worried about how or why people vote, what're you hiding or fearful of?
Your characters are, to a degree, you. If your main is 'awesomeniceguyX' but it's then found out that your alts are 'forumtrollA' and 'caodtroll 139243'...etc, then you're simply getting the effects of karma.

I vote for what the candidate stands for..
When it comes to being famous or not.. Well, a famous player character have usually done something to achieve the status. ANd that might count ofcource. Good or for ill. That will always be considered.
