As you all may be aware, isk spammers flood the game channels with their marketting chatter taking advantage of trial accounts, mainly (although there were reports of payed accounts through the use os stolen credit card numbers, according to a GM). I'm fed up with them, specially because on the past two weeks they have been really anoying.
What to do? Petitions are almost useless, since after being banned they just create another alt. Seems also that "locking" certain words has been done but with no use, since they start to change them (i.e. their url).
So I propose that to trial accounts should only be given access to certain channels, like the rookie channel. "But I want to chat with some friends on my language channel!". Well, private chats are there just for that.
I'm sorry, but enough is enough, and since I like to have fluid conversations in RL without being pestered, I also like to do the same ingame, typing. |

Interesting idea, but I could also see it annoy some new players.
How long would the delay be before you could chat on any channel? Would the player still show up in local, NPC corp, etc channel list?

Well, those are in fact good questions. I started this thread not only to suggest a solution, but also to let other people do the same. Since CCP has no 100% effective ones, maybe if every one of us who feels like I do can also give their contribution with possible ideas for a definite solution. |

Agree 100% on this idea. Since it only affect trial acounts, this wont affect players once they upgrade to paying customer. As I see it, it's either this or a player defined chat filter.

This gets my vote. Even if they only made so trial members were unable to chat in local, leaving help and corp chats available.

How about when they track how many ppl have an person set to "Blocked" and when they hit say, 500 blocks they get flagged for review by CCP. Then blocking them will mean something.

Blocking them isn't a solution since they get banned seconds after being petitioned for. I stoped blocking when I realised I didnt want to have a billion "kljdfhkjsfh" banned chars in my block list |

Edit: One thing that annoys them is "spamming" huge blank spaces, like typing a dot(.), shift+enter about 20 times and then typing another dot (i.e.), then enter and there you go, the spammer wall of text has gone out of sight.
This also annoys everyone else in the channel, particularly if they already have the spammer blocked. I don't think blocking causes any lag, and I believe the list is held server-side, so just block them.

Well, I prefer to have a less selfish attitude and petition the spammer so that everyone else doesnt have to block him. As for annoying everyone else on the channel, so far everyone else has done the same, and we all type smiles after that, so it seems that people are making an effort, together. |

This irritates me as much as the spammers. I've block soem people for doing it excessively. That interferes with legit commerce as well.

annoying ISK spam sucks but I think CCP just accepts the spam for preventing a loss of new players because they are unable to communicate freely.

There are serious drawback in your idea.
The rookie channel is a bad tool to use when you need some explanation of the game. Too many people speaking at the same time.
The NPC corp chat is way more useful, you can get more extensive explanations and if you are lucky you can get someone to open a private chat to explain to you what you need to know.
Rookie channel is totally unsuitable for that. When I play with my alts in the NPC corps I try to help people asking questions but I will never try that in the rookie channel.
Some months ago CCP had changed something and the number of isk spammer had decreased, now it is again rising, probably they have found a counter to what CCP did, but locking the new players out of all the useful channels is not the way to go.
The only change I see as useful would be a "report" option when R-clicking on a name, naturally a option that will require a confirmation. That will make reporting a spammer faster instead of the slow "open petition, select petition type name, ecc." system.
Someone would surly abuse the system, but some judicious use of the ban hammer would teach people not to use that tool to harass regular players.

Well, I must say that I've been thinking about the same... It wouldnt really stop them, but right now I'm thinking more like "an eye for an eye", and yeah, this would contribute to annoy them even more
