Ok, I have never touched industry in eve, so im quite clueless in all aspects of it. But I see a lot of ppl, have industry alts.. for making their own ammo and ships/mods and to sell said stuff.. So I ask,
what do I need to get this going?
Is it cheaper to make all the ammo/mods/ships yourself, even if ya donĘt mine?
Do i need to own a POS?
and.. just for an example: a CARACAL costs about 3,7mill.. how much skills would i need to get production costs below that? given that i would buy Ore at Jita price.
Any advice to a not yet born industry alt, are welcome :)

By alt i hope you mean a seperate account. Train that alt in production and mining first. A good high sec alt that flys hulk can produce a good boost in isk with almost no risk. There are also alot of good high sec indy corps out there to help you out. It sounds like your main is pretty new also and having an industry alt will for sure come in handy in the future. Peace.

You have to factor in you need blueprints to produce mods and ships, even a factoring in a 1 run Caracal BPC, it would probably be cheaper to buy the 1 Caracal off the market. On the other hand, if you plan on building/selling 200 Caracals, then in the long run it will be cheaper. You can build everything in an NPC Station except for some Capital ships.

You'll need basic mining, refining and production skills to actually get the assembly lines rolling. You'll also need a blueprint to work from. If you used the Market the blueprints you buy will be originals that can be re-used over and over but will be very basic and wasteful. You can find more advanced "Pre-researched" blueprints on the contract system but most if not all of them will be copies that can only be used so many times before they are gone. 1. Mining 4 (It puts the ore in the cargo hold or else it gets the hose again!) 2. Refining 4 (The higher your refining skill the less that is "Unrecoverable" when refining at a station. ALSO try and use a station that is set up for industrial work. Some stations have a very low "Base Yield" and some have higher.) 3. Industry 3 (Lets you build faster and is a basic skill required for more advanced skills) 4. Mass production 3 (Lets you run more production jobs at once, 1 per skill level. So with Mass Production at 3 you can run a total of 3 manufacturing jobs at once) 5. Production Efficiency (Reduces the materials required to make something, I.E. Less waste)

Sometimes, depending on what is required to make the item. Basic ammo is dirt cheap to make and obviously higher end equipment and ships cost a fortune in materials to build. Any time you buy minerals to build with your going to be cutting deeply into the profit you could make by gathering the material yourselves. (What I do is gather what I can, and buy what I can't if I need minerals that come from low-sec space)

No, almost all equipment and ships can be made from an NPC station. (Captial ships need a POS in 0.0 space) Its very costly to upkeep a POS and most do it because ME research labs have very long wait que's in almost every NPC system.

You'll need skills that let you build with less waste (Production Efficiency) and work with blueprints with high Material Efficiency (Requires research).

Start small and work your way up. Spend time reading the market to see what items are in demand and their value. (Price History when looking at a specific item. It will show you a line for the price and at the bottom show you the volume sold over time) I bought a blueprint original for a light missle that is in very heavy demand in my area and its easy to make. Its not major payroll, but its good income and the missles sell almost instantly. (Try and undercut your competition just enough to make the jumps to your system worth it)
Good luck!

Good points have been made so far. But if you mine things yourself, please remember that ore you mine yourself is not free.
Always check what you can make by selling the required materials versus the cost of the finished product(Minerals + production cost).
Missiles are good starting items in most areas and are the best in caldari space as that is the bread & butter ammo. If you want to reduce your costs further, remember to get better standings with the station owner by running missions.
Ammo in general is good manufacturing, but there exists better items. Learn to do your research on the market, search around the forums for tidbits of info. You will soon be getting hand on enough money to keep growing. Lone Wolf |

Noticed a slight discrepancy above - with mass production 3 you can have 4 jobs. Every char gets 1 'free', so you have Mass production + advanced mass production + 1 jobs available per char, or 11 max.
In addition, in most cases, it will ALWAYS be cheaper to go to Jita and buy a caracal than to build one. No matter how researched your BPO is, no matter how much experience you have - always cheaper. This is because some people mine minerals and then build caracals - they then sell the caracal for less than they could have just sold the minerals for (yep, they just wasted time and station fees, throwing isk out the window). In such a case, if your goal is to get a caracal by industry means, just mine and sell the minerals - you'll get better value for your time.
The obvious exception to this is if you don't have ready access to a market hub, or if your goal is to make them for profit and you have found places where you can do sell and sell a reasonable amount.
