This past Saturday I logged in to Eve and couldnĘt. The reason was the client had stated that there were too many people logged in.
I waited about an hour then logged in with no problem. Does this happen a lot or is it rare? Was it a fluke on my end?

You first logged in when the "cluster" aka login server was full of other folks logging in. I usually wait about a minute and try again and get into EvE. No need to wait an hour.
This tends to happen lately during the weekends when Europe, Asia and North America are playing at the same time. You won't run into this issue during the week. -------------------------------

It happens sometimes, don't worry about it, you can always relog immidiately, no reason to wait an hour. ==================================================

This happends sometimes, but it very easy to solve. Just close the client, and restart it. You should be able to log on in the same second the logon window is up again.

It's all a crock. I often log in without problems when it's showing over 35k online. A couple of hours later it'll show 20k online and put me in a queue to log on.

Confirming this. In order to avoid a single point of failure there is no dedicated login-server you connect to, you just get a connection to a random proxy on client startup. Hence, if you get a bad one, just restart the client. Also, a preemptive acknowledgment of there being cons as well as pros to this approach, but it's like that for most things in this world of ours. At least you'll be able to log in as long as (the proper) parts of the cluster are still up. ~ Prism X EvE Database Developer Relocating your character to a cozy, secure container since 2006. That's because it's a queue of people logging in; it's not based on the number of people already logged in. There's a current-tense / past-tense component you missed there. ~ Santiago Fahahrri Galactic Geographic |

OOoooOOOoooo.
Btw, I thought the server was state or the art.

They have the hamster wheels placed under anvils and the only way the hamster can keep the anvil from falling on it's head is to keep running to keep the server up... though sometimes more than one hamster gets hit by an anvil and we get those node failures
