Title more or less says it all. I know it's easy enough to bring spare ships packaged and in an Orca or hauler, and assemble them in space, but is there a way to repackage them for the return trip home? I know an Orca can hold several cruiser sized ships fully built in its hold, but I might need return passage for bigger ships.

nope, afaik repackaging can only be done in Outposts or NPC stations. "Misina Arlath

I've heard this thrown around,, I *assume* by assemble in space, you mean jettison them? Sorry, I'm not familiar with doing this, but when I lost an industrial once I noticed the shuttles were jettisonned assembled, but I thought this no longer happened because you could load up a Freighter full of shuttles, pop it and crash a node? ---

I believe a freighter wreck now holds the items not destroyed inside the wreck, not sure.
At a POS or ship with ship maintenance arrays, you'd typically assemble a ship inside the corp hangar, then move to ship array, then launch it. Assembled ships can be stored back into the ship array, but space is limited.
There is no way to repackage items outside of a station/outpost.
I promise nothingÖ. --CCP Prism X |

yes, jetison them and they auto-assemble. but you can also assemble them inside your ship if there is room, and you are near a ship maintenance array (or orca).
once removed from your cargohold, an assembled ship cannot be put back in. they can be freely moved between hangars though.... not sure about the corp-hangars on an Orca though. ~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |

A corp hangar can store ships packaged and unpackaged (so long as there's sufficient space to put it in). That goes for all corp hangars, station, POS structure and ships. --

Repackaging of anything (ships or items) can only be done at an outpost or NPC station.
Assembling of ships can be done in any normal corp hangar (including assembly arrays) that both has the required amount of space and you are within range of an assembly array (POS or ship based).
Ship Maintenance arrays can only store assembled ships, corp hangars can store both providing they have room, however assembled usually means they will be much larger.
