I run an 8800GTX with 3 clients in windowed mode pretty close to max settings. I can get a steady 65-75 fps with this in a busy mission or fleet fight. In quiet space I get easily double this. Average temp seems to be 75-82 DegC, never seen it go higher, I blue screen if it does.
Might need to update my cooling |

I'm going to purchase an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650.
Admittedly, I've never done much benchmarking before. I'm relatively new to the computer building scene. How would I go about finding a "good" mark to bench from?
You would be much better off with a faster dual core like the 8500 which can be clocked to 4.5 ghz quite easily if it's a machine for eve.

OOPE posting?
Mostly for EVE it's the graphics card. I have a E4500 with a GTX260 and within station at full graphics I get 150fps at least.
You could get away with a 8600GT. EVE isn't like Crysis so don't worry about getting a 2 year old gfx card. It should do the trick fine.

It's too hard to figure out what computer gear to buy so I came up with this instead:
I go to Sam's Club (U.S.) and buy the computer that's in the biggest cardboard box that doesn't have a fork lift hole in it.
After two or three tries I'm good to go.

It all depend on your resolution and settings you use, I did recently move to 4870x2 for mine 30" LCD. Mine old card was 8800GTX and it run 40+ fps in missions and maybe double in empty space and station. (high settings with disabled antialliasing) -got once to huge fight and my FPS went down to sub 10 level on 8800gtx and i have yet to experience something similar with 4870, it seems that new graphic cards are more effective for increased ammount of polygons and effect)
As for op i would prefer 48xx or 2xx card over already several years old 8xxx and 9xxx (whitch is basicaly rebranded 8xxx line with little tweaking) generation.
I am nor running eve 2560x1600@high with shadows at medium (5 fps diference medium or no shadow, but 30 fps diference for high shadows) 100+ at station 60+ in space.
CPU go for higher clocked dualcore if dont use more programs at once in which case quadcore is better. ----- Q6600 8GB Corsair DDR2@1066 x38 workstation board 8 port Adaptec SAS controller with 2 15k rpm SAS drives in raid 0 and 6.5TB total disks space X-fi connected to 7.1 AV receiver onkyo 806 and soon B&W 6xx speaker set Saphire 4870x2 30" DELL ultrasharp LCD Os windows 2003

Confirming this, especially when paired with SLI or crossfire.

epic fail for suckers with more dollars than brains. Steve Jobs roflcopters at his balance every time someone posts "OMG VISTAR SUCKZORZ BUY MAC CAUSE THEY HAVE 32 GB !!1!one!! of RAM (money waste) and 8 COREZ !!! (which 99.99% of software cant utilise) and 4TB of HD space to hold my anime p0rn collection"

I bolded the ultimate failure and wonder if you spent 1/10 of the time you commit Macfanboism to actually researching hardware to realise where you went wrong.
