Edited by: Min Qa on 03/04/2009 18:50:16 I'm think about joining FW, and I had a few questions about the Navy forces and how safe you are in your own factions high sec. I joined up on SISI, and was able to fly through enemy space relatively easily, as long as I didn't stay any where for more than a few seconds and didn't fly a slow ship. I went shopping at a major hub and had no problems tooling about =).
However, if I joined up, how safe would I be in my own faction's high sec? Could I mission as long as I watched local? Is helping a friend mine out of the question? What about safe spots? Can the factional navy detect cloaked probers?

You are never "safe" but if you pay attention to your surroundings you shouldn't have a problem missioning. My corp missions one night a week to fund our funtimes and we rarely see any WTs pass thru our system. Murashu Agony's End |

Edited by: Min Qa on 03/04/2009 20:52:39 I guess safer than low sec (not having to dock at the first person in local) or safer than a high-sec war dec (due to the Navy) would be what I'm asking. You'd always want to watch local and/or the directional scanner.

It seems to have changed recently. I made some tests at the beginning of FW, and it was very hard to tank the faction navy on testserver with a Golem. The strength of the faction Navy ensured a relative safety in highsec, at least if you used ships with a huge buffer deep within your faction's space. In the course of 8-9 months i saw maybe 1 or 2 war-target in my highsec mission hub. Few days ago some of them started to show up. Yesterday i finally saw a Typhoon camping the main mission station, engaged it with my mission Nighthawk, ofc. i didn't have a warp disruptor and the Typhoon warped away. This was very surprising, he was tanking the Navy quite well. After a while he then undocked in a torp-raven and engaged my Nightawk while being shot by the Navy. I had fitted a warp disruptor this time, and this lead to a very tight fight:
-> Killmail
On the killmail you see the Navy doing only 16% damage, the Navy engaged around at the same time, my Nighthawk did ~660 DPS, little more since the launchers were overheated ~10% of time. According to the numbers the Navy was doing lower than 150 DPS, that's only a rough estimation (true DPS depends on damage type of the navy, how much volleys were fired at hull vs shields etc.), but clearly shows that it is now quite easy to tank the Navy. I think in the long run this will increase highsec engagements in hostile militia space and create a new trend. If you check the guy's kill records on our militia board, he managed to kill quite a few ships in that highsec system within few days. This shows that missioning might become quite risky, especially if you use faction modules and the war-targets know this.

Irjunen is sec rating 0.5. The Navy NPCs scale up in strength as system security increases. I doubt that guy could do that in Perimiter, for example. The Navy frigates jam in 1.0, for one thing, and they are accompanied by 2 BS as well.

I have a quick question, myself. As I understand it, Amarr are allied with Caldari, and Minmitaur are allied with Gallante, correct? Does this mean that joining the Min militia and fighting the Amarr navy will also prevent me from entering Caldari space?

Yes. I joined up [with Minmatar] and the Caldari Navy shot at me on a Jita shopping run.

You will not be safe in hisec. You can do missions, but think twice when you undock with a factionfitted ship.

watch local. It is safe if you do that. They can use neutral scouts and probers but once they are in hi sec the navy will be on them. The higher the sec status the harder the navy responds. Be vigilant and you can do whatever you want.

Are you sure you got the right attitude to embark in FW?
"not having to dock at the first person in local" does not really cut it. You'd be actually to gang up or just try solo the "first person in local".
About "safe", even not being in FW does not make high sec "safe". Just try hauling a full load of morphite or a T2 BPO and you'll see how safe high sec is, even outsided of FW.
When you are in FW you are in a permanent wardec, nowhere to hide. And yes, they WILL kill you when you go buy stuff, yes the faction police will WEB and attack you after some seconds past inside their territory, and yes you cannot do any mission or help friends in those lands at all, as the faction cops will haunt you.
