I need a monster PC that can run the highest quality games from this year on 100% settings and still more than enough to spare to run multiple clients at the same time. Basically, I want it to be good enough that it will last the next 10 - 15 years of games without any significant upgrades.
My spending budget is quite large, and I also would prefer an Nvidia video card.

first off, there is no such thing as a 10-15year futureproofed computer "Without significant upgrades", especially with nvidia. ______________________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Since it's not possible to build a comp that would last 15 years, I would suggest you launch a new political party. Call it "Beware te AI!" Seize power and put ban on further computing research. You'll probably need to resort to violence and autocracy. Your plan may also need to involve a world wide conflict to prevent other nations from progress as well.
That's the only feasible way I can imagine that would lead to current comps remaining contemporary for 15 years. --------------------------------------------- Unclouded by conscience, remorse or delusions of morality. |

You could, i suppose, stick 16gb of RAM onto a xeon motherboard system running a pair of quadcores, then Quad-SLI some nvidia 280 GTX cards, and stick in 4 1.5tb drives.
That would likely last 10 years, provided no fundamentally new technology is created, which is more likely to happen than having the same card and CPU infrastructure for the next 100 years. 族---族

Your tiny 1.5TB drives have been trumped by this

Actually I opted for 1.5TB drives as they have 7200 RPM variants of them, as opposed to the 5400 of 2tb drives right now. HDD speed will more likely be a choke in coming years, if the technology doesn't update, where CPU was in the past 5. 族---族

The 2TB is 7200RPM

That's fine if you assume that the op needs as much space as possible.
Why not take the middle-road? Get some super-fast solid-state drives. Maybe 2 SDD's for a super-fast system drive. You can pick up 64gb solid-state drive now, if you got the money.
And then go with the best traditional harddrives, both in terms of space and speed. Given the fact you will have 64gb of super-fastness, then maybe the speed part is less important.

No, it isn't.
And LaVista, SSD's sound like a good idea. OS + Games on a pair of SSD's, everything that has lower access speeds (music, video, browsers etc) onto the disc drives. 族---族

Then what is it? I've found things saying it's 5400 and 7200. Or is it the IntelliPower that makes it not really have a constant speed...in which case, I'd go with the SSD's.
