2nd "help me" thread of my day...I'm bored at work. Anyway, I need a new keyboard. I currently have a Saitek Eclipse I. This may be a weird preference, but I like it when the letters are printed on the middle of the keys, like the Eclipse. Not a requirement though. I prefer wired, but I'll take wireless suggestions. If it has "extra" keys, like multimedia keys or something that's fine, but I don't want it to be huge. Thanks for the help.

I use a Razor Lachesis. It's expensive, but the keys are super responsive, any key on it can be re-bound to something else (I use my num-pad for all assortments of things), and the symbols are in the center of the keys. 族---族

The Quietkey is unkillable. I'll give you 10 mil if it lasts you less than a year. (I would bet 3 years, but that's too long term of a bet).

Oh I know. We had one for about 8 years and just got rid of it because we tossed the PC. I was young when we had it, so of course it got attacked by food, drink, etc. Never died.

I'll also put this into terms that other forum users can understand, if one of them might need a keyboard in the future as well (not that any of them have the brains to use eve-search)

Saitek Cyborg.
Used it for four or five months now, and I definitely like it. It's a bit on the pricey side, so I'd keep an eye on NewEgg or Amazon, etc. for discounts.
It's got a lot of gadgets and stuff on it, but at it's core, it's a solid keyboard.

I have the Eclipse I. I purposely didn't get the II because it seemed like a waste of money for some extra features I didn't need. I'll look at it again though, depends on the price. The cyborg seems cool but it looks huge, and I read some reviews on Newegg (I think) about certain buttons not working after a couple months.

Edited by: ry ry on 07/04/2009 10:54:03 we had the eclipse 2s at work, they were ****. the paint wore off the keys, buttons randomly stopped working, other buttons randomly fell off and they were naff to type on.
i'm a huge fan of Cherry keyboards, but IBM model Ms are pretty win if you can get one.
at the moment i've got a cheapo Cherry off ebuyer and an IBM one i got with a machine (not Model M, but it's still ****ing nails tbh). i'd recommend both.

Edited by: ReaperOfSly on 07/04/2009 12:05:38 I have a Saitek Eclipse 2. Don't get one, it's rubbish. The keys sometimes don't work when you press them. Also, the pain is wearing off.
Edit: normally, I'd edit to correct the spelling (it's supposed to say paint), but it just illustrates my point too perfectly. I definitely pressed the t key. ____________________

well I've had mine almost 2 years now and no keys have wore off or anything. Still works fine...
I do have a Cherry also which is far cheaper and feels quite nice, but it has laptop-style keys where some people prefer clunky ones.

Old school Cherry keyboards are win, very high quality and can take more than 3 keypresses at the same time (may sound stupid but a lot of keyboards can't detect more than 3 keys at the same time, kinda crappy when playing FPS). If you want some more bells and whistles, Logitech G15. The macro keys are great (and allowed in EVE) and the screen is fantastic for vent/TS as it shows you who's speaking/joining/whatever. It can also show other info.

I find the 'diNovo Edge' to be the best keyboard I've used, the multimedia controls are surprising useful. This one is also laptop-ish so if your not into the flat keys.. also no keypad. So nice to type on tho
Furthermore by continuing this discussion we detract from the real issue many of us are having with eve online, the lack of break between signature and post content. |

Oh my god that looks awesome. Any idea what it'll cost and when it's coming? If it's not too spendy, that's what I'll be getting.

Pretty much this. I quite like mine, although to be honest I only really use the LCD, not the macro keys. If only I could take them off to save some space.

HAH I wish. I discovered the optimus back when it was a prototype and I was just wandering through the web. I've always wanted one but there's no way I can spend that much on a keyboard.
I've looked at the G15 but it seems waaaaay too big. I do like the LCD though showing who's talking in TS/Vent.

The original G15 mkI is, but the G15 mkII is smaller and better.

smaller isnt always better, the original is better as it has more macro keys

THe mkII has the same number of macro keys, using the M1, M2, M3 keys. Which I find is better than the mkI, because now I can put 6 specific game macros on the one M1 key and not accidentally hit other keys.

Looksee, this here bottle only is half full and therefore it has more air in it, which I like. So half full bottles are better than full bottles.

The thing is, you don't go banger racing with an Aston Martin, you do it with a cheap Ford Sierra (unless you're one of those *****s with lots of money and don't care!)

In that case,
Logitech Netplay Keyboard.
It's supposed to be for some PS2 controller they released a while back, but I was able to get one for free from an EB Games (Before they merged with GameStop) because the controllers weren't really selling.
You might be able to still find one on Amazon or something. The keyboard itself is USB, so it works fine for computers. I had to use it for a while when I had limited desk space.

This was a lot more help than I was expecting just for a keyboard lol.... As far as macro keys go, I could care less how many it has. It could have one, it could have 20. I've never used them so it's not like I'm losing something. That being said I don't want something plain and boring. Part of the problem is that the nicer keyboards cost more than I really feel like I should be spending on a keyboard. I'm also just too picky about certain things. I'll keep looking for now, and maybe in a few weeks make up my mind.
