Since leaving my 0.0 corp I've made a bundle of isk in Empire. I'm now thinking it would be interesting to roam around WH space. I'm quite content to do this until I pop, but I was wondering if there was any content available for a non combat ship, other than ooh pretty :D
I suppose it'd be nice to help a few stuck travellers get out, but can I get anything for myself?

Only thing "non-combat" is mining, ore or gas. Though you'll still have to kill a few sleepers, which'll still tear through a covert ops. Some of the spatial effects are pretty cool to look at, but not sure if its worth it just for those.

If you're alone then no, a cov ops has nothing to do in WH space, unless you're rescuing stranded people.

You can also rescue stranded POSes. I've run across a number of them that are off-line, and I conjecture that a fair number have been lost by the owners. Some of them may be willing to pay a substantial finder's fee, and a cov ops is well-suited for finding them.
You might also want to scan down abandoned ships and fly them out -- evidently there are quite a few.

Well, if you like to probe around and look around, the WH systems are nice to see. You can try roam till you find one of those with a black hole or one of the other w-space special effects affecting ships. Moreover, if you like to scan, there are all the signatures you ever dreamt to scan (at least, in the >= level 3 systems I visited).
If you want to go check out some random sites, I suggest to not try and engage them, as the Sleeper are not sleepy at all and will happily warp scramble and hit you VERY VERY V E R Y hard and RR and assist against you. Ie for a level 3 site (average) I'd suggest a well tanked BC for the minor sites (not the combat ones, those are nastyyyy) if you want to "interact" with the indigenous population.

I don't suggest you to be too helpful like that: plenty of people ready to ask you help and then pop you. You don't even want to talk in local, as this "uncloaks" your presence and it's still 0.0 lawless space down there.
In closing:
Since you are in a cov ops, you can make some evil ISK out of it by selling POSes positions to the owners' enemies . Expecially the most carebearing POSes are in easy to reach w-systems and you can bookmark all you need to get back in there.

If you live in WH space a cov ops can be a great asset, infact its a minimal investment that will save you lots ot time during scanning. You'll be getting 100% signature alot quicker.

'fraid I'm in the camp that says you won't have much to do .. . if you solo.
On the other hand, as part of a group effort a cov-ops makes an excellent surveyor. And surveyors are always busy if a group is taking on w-space.
I'd suggest you hook up with a small gang and go diving. Nothing beats personal experience for figuring things out and finding out if you like it down here. Wormholes ate my sig.

Covops - essential for WH space as a locator of targets, a warp to zero point, and general all round 'cad and bounder'.
Fit with salvager.
Also the most treasured gang member - especially when the wormhole the gang comes in via - goes pop and theyre trapped. I have managed to secure an exit several times for gangmates.
Dont go in without one.
Latest trick I have spotted in WH - someone anchoring warp bubble at 100k point on trajectory from each WH in system they know of. POS sitting behind, with nice 'bait' ships in POS as targets for 'cads and bounders'. . . 8/ everyone |
