All should be checking themselves for Ticks. In my area, neighbors been reminding each for past 2 months, because it looked like the this year was different.
Been pulling out many more ticks than years past and seems, like w/ other stuff, species type shifting areas or new types around.
The Tick disease's are pretty fuckin' bad if takes hold so check yourselves, remind others as you would a loved one to drive safe or "seatbelt".
They vary in size from obvious to looking like a speck of dirt/debris/mole. Some you'll never know are there, some you WILL feel a bite. So before you rip/scratch at bites, inspect the area. It's hard to not scratch first, but some of these small ass one's have felt like a bee sting.

My dog usually ends up with a couple each year. Nasty little things. I absolutely hate pulling them out. I get the creeps just thinking about them.
It's always good to do a check anytime after you have been running through any foliage. They prefer warm and humid so for everyone that has been noting extra heat lately there is a good chance you'll see more of them this year.
Now I'm all itchy. |

My dog's vet says Frontline doesn't work for fleas and ticks anymore. It doesn't bother the latest generations of those vermin. Then again, that could just be his way to stick us with a huge bill for the new, cutting edge medicine. I wouldn't put it past him. |

After nine days of turkey hunting, I think I pulled 6 or 7 off of me (not all at once, thankfully).
Hate those damn things.
DEET doesn't do jack **** and permithrin smells terrible and to be honest, is a bit too dangerous even when applied only to clothing as directed. |

Ticks can carry Lymes Disease, and thats good enough reason to check for them,
Heres a quote explaining why.
"No less arresting is Lyme disease, which comes from the bite of a tiny deer tick. If undetected, it can lie dormant in the human body for years before erupting in a positive fiesta of maladies. This is a disease for the person who wants to experience it all. The symptoms include, but are not limited to, headaches, fatigue, fever, chills, shortness of breath, dizziness, shooting pains in the extremities, cardiac irregularities, facial paralysis, muscle spasms, severe mental impairment, loss of control of body functions, and--hardly surprising, really-- chronic depression." There is a fine line between a post and a signature. |

After a quick trip to google I have surmised that you can't count sperm with an abacus |

Well, if you eat DEET, now you can.
Everyone else probably not
I hate ticks. And they are especially bad this year in my area (NE USA).
-Old school combat boots with no entry points except the top -pants tucked into boots, boot laces wrapped around ankle and then tied just tight enough not to be a tourniquet -tucked in shirt with tight belt -rolled up long sleeves, also tight (you may notice a theme here) -hope to god one doesn't attempt death-from-above approach
you'll be hot as hell because the clothes won't breathe well, so drink lots of water
full body inspection at end of day. clothes come off only the moment before you step into the shower check everywhere, especially underneath/around gentlemen bits if you have em, and arm pits
never had a tick, never plan on having one either |

Ticks like any crevices, so check all yer crevices
Tip I picked up in the USMC and also works against chiggers is, unmanly as it is but it works so men wear it under pants and boots so no one can see and mock you endlessly for it, pantyhose!

Ticks used to be hell in the more humid parts of Texas. But then fire ants invaded from Mexico and ate them all. No more ticks, but now you have tiny ants everywhere that both bite and sting and leave blisters. The fire ants also ate all of the red ants, which in turn caused the horned lizards ("horny toads") about go extinct. Ticks or fire ants-- kind of a hard call.
Monty Python, "All Things Dull and Ugly" All things dull and ugly, All creatures short and squat, All things rude and nasty, The Lord God made the lot. Each little snake that poisons, Each little wasp that stings, He made their brutish venom. He made their horrid wings.
All things sick and cancerous, All evil great and small, All things foul and dangerous, The Lord God made them all.
Each nasty little hornet, Each beastly little squid-- Who made the spikey urchin? Who made the sharks? He did!
All things scabbed and ulcerous, All pox both great and small, Putrid, foul and gangrenous, The Lord God made them all.
Amen.

Had ticks so many times It's way beyond funny. Every time I go camping i get **** drunk and decide to go for midnight wanders throughout the bushgrass.
Couple of more tips
Do NOT remove them by putting vaseline or anything else on them to choke them.
This is a old wifes tale and does WAY more damage then good. If the tick is infected with any disease choking them (which is what applying vaseline/cream or anything will actually make them regurgitate their stomach contents into your bloodstream before loosening their bite which increases the chance of catching infection from them.
Can google how to remove them with a pair of tweezers (special ones for the purpose is best as regular ones will also make you squeeze their innards into the bitewound by squeezing the main body
Once removed stick em in a food bag and then in the freezer, reason being that if you do develop some sort of infection then you can take the bag to the hospital and they can test the actual tick to narrow down what infections it was carrying.
At one point I had 10 ticks in my freezer lol

Ha find this funny as I went out shooting yesterday and had to full on dawn the pants tucked into shoes, shirt tucked in collar up, Deet all over. Buggers were all over.
I think it might be easier just to frontline myself instead and leave the dog inside. One nice thing about living in the desert cactus stick you not ticks. |
