When I load the map, it hangs while "applying filters". There is nothing I can do but close and avoid using the map. I can't sort way points without the map, so I'm kind of hung today.

Hi!
I'm having the same problem right now (using a new Macbook). Everything worked just fine yesterday. Did you find a remedy? When yes please post it.

Happens to me three. Sometimes I can close the map, then open it up again (yes I do get the little map panel windows up every time). Sometimes I have to undock or dock. Sometimes, all that seems to help is to restart the client. Extremely annoying!

I have not found a solution. When it happens to me, I have to restart, there is nothing else I can do.
I'm going out of town this weekend, so I'm not going to worry about it today. But on Monday, I'll try to turn on the logging and open a trouble ticket with CCP and submit the logs and such.

I read a solution somewhere which works for me (so far). The problem seems to occur only when the star map is opened in the hanger right after logging in. Undocking before opening the star map the first time seems to work for me. Hope it helps others to.

This is correct, problem only happens if you press map while docked in station after log on.
What this make extremely annoying is if you are in low sec, map can give you very useful info before you get out!
I have try to bug petition it on two occasions but with no help because they couldn't reproduce it.
There is even in game help topic on map menu that says you should delete all yours cache and settings file. I did that, it did fix the problem but it just appeared again after few days.
Something obviously triggers the problem in your cache/settings but I haven't been able to figure it out.
I wish CCP would give some attention to this, because as I said, it is very annoying not to have working map function in station while you are in low sec.

I seams that I found solution to this bug:
In World Map Control Panel -> STAR MAP -> ANIMATION ->
DESELECT "Auto zoom to selection"
and restart the game.

I constantly get this too. It makes the game unplayable, and I often log in and out several times before either getting it to work or just giving up and not using the map (like that's easy...)
I'll try the above fix, but MAN this is annoying.
