When using mining drones, if I hit mine repeatedly, does that mean any ore the drones were already carrying is jettisoned into space?
Or, if the drones are already carrying some ore, will they hold on to it until they return to my cargo bay?
Which is it.
Thanks

Mining drones don't store ore. They fly to the asteroid, do a mining cycle, fly back to your ship and at that point they subtract however much ore they should have mined from the asteroid and transfer it into your ship. You can tell that this is the way that they work by setting them to mine an asteroid that's small enough for them to pop in one cycle and then seeing that it doesn't pop until they actually return to your ship.
As to repeatedly hitting mine, I'm not sure what that does. If you do it on the same asteroid then it either does nothing or it resets their mining cycle.
However I would discourage messing with mining drones, I've managed to bug them before (typically by recalling them early and then sending them out again) so that they stop returning to my ship (so I never get ore from them). Eventually when I notice this I manually recall them and get a full load of ore and then they mostly start working properly again.

Yes, if you use "mine repeatedly" the mining drones will mine that rock until either its gone or you recall them.
When mining in less than a mining barge I found them quite useful -- like an extra half-laser.
Once you're using strip miners they don't make much difference.
Tip -- when using mining drones get as close as possible to the rock they're working on so that you'll decrease their travel time and get more cycles faster. Sep'Shoni

I want to know - if my mining drones are already mining an asteroid, and I hit "mine repeatedly" a second time, does this reset their cycle. Meaning, for whatever 30 seconds or 45 seconds they were already mining, will I receive NOTHING now because I hit "mine repeatedly" again.
Drones seem to be really stupid. Probably because they are completely ignored by CCP. For example, look at the description of a drone and you will notice that CCP developers didn't even bother putting a period. All other modules have a description that is a paragraph or two, but drones don't even receive a full sentence! So I don't trust what is happening when I use mining drones.
And Sep'Shoni, I disagree. I calculated that (5x Mining Drone II) at (Mining Drones Lv5) pulls in 312m3 in 65 seconds. In 180 seconds, that is 900m3 - almost like having an extra strip mining turret.

I use 5 Mining Drone II's and have Drone Interfacing to IV. If I am within 3k of a roid, I find that the drones are equivalent to 0.7 of a strip miner, which is an increase of 20-23% yield over just using the 3 strip miners alone.
Drone Interfacing V would increase their yield another 20%, so using them does make a difference.
As far as your question is concerned, letting them complete their cycle (60 secs) is probably safer than interupting them mid-cycle for whatever reason.

Mining Drones *DO* store ore, but they don't have a cargo-hold.
The time between the mining drone leaving the roid and arriving at your ship the mineral has been removed from the asteroid but doesn't yet appear in your cargohold.
This might seem like a minor note, but it can be the difference between failing a mining mission - if a drone gets destroyed when traveling from the asteroid to your ship, those minerals will be lost forever.
Thus to answer your question: if you hit "mine" again, then yes, the ore number attached to the drone does get reset. _______________ <Q> QUANT Hegemony QUANT is rebuilding, EVE-Mail me for recruitment info. Item Database |

Yeah, I noticed that when in 5 minutes, the drones never returned to ship once.

To think, all these years I haven't been getting any ore from my mining drones because I kept hitting "Mine repeatedly" when they were already mining.
It should be that if you hit "Mine repeatedly", if the drones are already carrying ore, they should return it to the ship first, and then continue mining.

I have been using mining drones a lot recently.
I have never found them to get stuck mining. every 60 seconds they come back. But I don't click mining more than once. From tiem to time I miss and hit 'mine' instead of 'mine repeatedly' and so I click on 'mine repeatedly' soon afterwards. I have never had an issue with that.

you just fail to understand the meaning of "repeatedly".
if u actually took your eyes off whatever you were looking at, and checked your drones when you hit the button, you would see what they are doing.
and if u've been doing this for years, then all i can say is: LOL _________________ - "Welcome to EVE, remember to insu *BAAOOM*... Told you, newb."
