Is there anything wrong with just mining, sculpting my skills and killing an occasional agent patrol? I haven't seen very many self employed N00bs. Wanted to choose a profession and find my niche, make sure I would have something to offer before seriously looking for a perm. corp, been looking but nothings struck me as to my usefulness yet. As soon as I quit the university, it through me into an npc corp. I had several in a group follow and tractor beam me all morning headed up by Angel Crystal. Don't be afraid to speak up Angel. And how are "person's unknown" able to change my settings while I,m flying? Radar, mail, and chat settings all changed while I was flying. Any help, suggestions or ideas?

Seriously, they're not changing anything. Probably just a group looking to salvage what they can or looking to flip a can and pop your ship.
Tractor beam won't work unless they're in the same group or corp (not npc corp).

Being a lone wolf for awhile is just fine, you just might enjoy it enough to keep at it, given the stellar experience of a lot of people who have been screwed by corporations they've joined.
As far as all the other stuff you describe, I can't for the life of me even begin to fathom how the stuff you say happened to you occured. People following and tractor beaming you? Doesn't make sense, as tractor beams can only be used on wrecks and jettisoned cans.
Get Ombey's maps, pick another place to set up your home base, and get the h*** out of where you are, seems your neighborhood is crowded with jerks.
If you think someone else is tampering with your account, file a petition with the Devs and keep your fingers crossed.
