Howdy,
This is an idea I've been rolling around in my head for a few weeks now and I just wonder how feasible it would be.
Basically a circuit would be spread out over a solarsystem, using various moons, 'roid belts and what not to map out the course.
At each waypoint, a cluster of containers would be deployed, something like this:
Container1
Container 2 Container 5 Container 3
Container 4
Racers would have to pass through the centre of each gate (Container 5) before heading off to their next waypoint. To ensure that it isn't all about mashing warp buttons, a series of three gates could be set up as a chicane at a couple of points.
The reason for low sec is to allow racers the ability to shoot at each other meaning its not all about rigging a ship for speed - tactical decisions have to be made. I envisage having to hire an outside security force to make sure that racers dont bring any friends along to lessen the competition....NPC pirates on the other hand, would be an interesting obstacle for racers.
There would be two classes, sensibly - tech 1 frigs with tech 1 modules and tech 2 frigs with tech 2 modules. At the end of the race, each ship would submit to a scan to ensure their fit abides by the rules.
A race would consist of about 3 laps, meaning that juggling capacitor power comes into play as well. Then you could have variants such as relay races....
Ideally, it would be cool if I could secure sponsership for prize money and what not but this whole idea is at a very early stage at the moment.
Do you think it could work?

Sounds interesting. I think you should perhaps have a item in the can that is proof of each waypoint. have to figure out a way to stop the can popping tho. Secure one maybe Join the brown Coats today!!! |

Lowsec = bring all your tastey expensive t2 interceptors so i can pop them and have free loot from all participants.

Edited by: Lifelongnoob on 08/04/2009 14:27:03 by organising it with ccp have each can monitored by a can keeper(GM)in a GM type ultra death ship (those ships all gm's use to destroy exploiter pos's/ships) u could place bookmarks with the warp to location of the next can in each can and the racer must warp to the can then take a bookmark then warp to the next can.... if a racer steals all the bookmarks from one can then the gm can warp scram and destroy the cheater's frig
each can could have a small warp disruptor bubble around it (deployed by ccp gm's only) to allow of locking and scanning of ships to ensure no cheating

As a veteran of the ISGC races, I can honestly say that the surprising thing is that we haven't seen a great deal more combat; even when one of the Sinq Laison tracks went in and out of Rancer several times, most of us survived.
The format involves jumping though lots of solarsystems, so unless you're part of a larger team, it's better to leave competitors alone - the gate timer is crippling when the margin of victory is often less than 3 minutes. --- 20:1 mineral compression ISRC Racing, Season 7 - schedule |

You can hire some mercs to smartbomb the incoming gates when you go through ^_^

My corp does something similar to this about once a month. We call it the Cannonball Run. It's a hell of a lot of fun. Basically, someone will lay out locked containers in about 5 systems throughout nullsec. They'll have secret items within that must be retrieved. We put them about 100km off of the warp-in point of a moon. There are a lot of strategies involved.
1) Building a good ship for less than 1m ISK. We put on a spending limit so that everyone is on the same level, more or less. 2) Planning the best route through nullsec. Most if the time I try to route the players through known gatecamped systems. They choose to try to sneak through the camp or go around it, taking longer. Can't use a cloak or CovOps ship because of the spending limit. 3) Once you're near the moon, must make your ship fast enough to get to the container before getting engaged by NPC's or by locals.
Good way to introduce noobs to lowsec. Also, putting on the spending limit makes ship design much more interesting. Last time I spent about 3 hours in EFT trying to come up with the most strategic ship.

I think a 0.0 Cannonball run would be awesome, unfortunately I can't ever get anyone to do it :(

/me loves these forum aggro escalations.
Ontopic. Op's thread sounds like a great idea. Try to fraps and edit it so we can see all the fun parts.

Get in touch with the people running the league. If you volunteer to set a course, we'll find you some competitors. I suggest you register on the forum already linked above. --- 20:1 mineral compression ISRC Racing, Season 7 - schedule |
