Is there a hard-set velocity limit when Destiny decides to throw a temper tantrum? As I recall, one of the reasons for the nano nerf was that Destiny couldn't properly handle objects moving above a certain velocity. Is this limitation known? Even if not, the practical limit should be known (80% of the absolute highest stable velocity).
Just a curiosity... For now. ____________________ CCP: Catering to the cowards of a cold, harsh universe since November, 2006. |

the first nano nerf was the limiting to one MWD. At the time you could fill the mids with MWDs and start really peeling out. This was nerfed because you could not turn, nor could you get out of the ship.
The most recent nano nerf was a balance issue, not a software engine issue. -------------

Everything is fine at ridiculous speed, but once you hid ludicrous speed everything starts to get ridiculous. -

In computer games things don't move from A to B, they jump from A to B every frame. If A and B are far apart because you're moving very fast the game also needs to check if your extruded volume hits anything between A and B (such as a wall) to make sure you don't just past straight through it.
The faster you go - the more stuff it has to check. If the wall is moving too it makes things even more complicated.
This probably also has some bearing on why you can fly through planets and structures while in warp.

This. In fact, one noteworthy incident involved a predecessor to the present-day dreadnaught-class internet spaceships reaching such a ridiculously ludicrous velocity that it went plaid.

Thanks for the lulz, but it's a serious question. I know that somewhere close to 20+-3km/s, Destiny becomes inconsistent. I don't want to know when the threshold for ridiculous behavior is, just the threshold for odd behavior. There was a dev post about this about a year and a half ago, but I can't seem to find it. ____________________ CCP: Catering to the cowards of a cold, harsh universe since November, 2006. |
