Call me stupid if this isn't the case and i've stuffed up but were probes removed from the directional scanner with the last patch?
Considering it takes a good combat scanner about a minute to scan down a target this seems to remove a lowsec/nullsec explorers only way of telling if you are going to get jumped.
Do we all need to fit a cloak and head to a safe as soon as someone appears on local now?
Pretty sad state if this is the case. I've had alot of fun trying to avoid pirate gangs with probers in the past (mostly with success) but without the directional scanner I have no chance.

Probes will show up on directional scanner if you uncheck Use overview settings. That's the only way now.

Before Apocrypha it was possible to detect a probe with another probe. Useful if the guy scanning you was outside the 14 AU range. Now it is no more possible.
BTW: with Apocrypha deadspace stopped reducing your signature.

I certainly hope it's not possible to get a 100% warpable hit on someone from over 14 AU away. That would be pretty lame.

Well it is.
Unless you ment 14AU away from a probe

I meant 14 AU from the target.

With the new probe mechanics, how far out do we have to look in the directional scanner to see them coming?

Fill it full of 9's and it'll reset to the maximum scan range.
You really want to know about all probes in the system if you think you're being hunted.
