Hello everyone, I'm a bit of a newbie in the Market game and I'm looking to dabble my feet. I've found an item which sells in my region for 45 million ISK, but in another region, sells for 30 million ISK. Thus, my idea is to buy at 30, sell at 45. At 50% profit, that's huge and I don't expect it to be that large in reality but it leads me to my question....
While I could invest all my ISK into this one item, I could potentially be left with stock that wont sell. How do I determine if an item is being sold/bought on a regular basis in my region? I've looked at the history tab in the market for it and I can see that some days there are none of this item where there were several the day before (volume history). Does this indicate that the item is selling? Or does it merely indicate that the item has been withdrawn from market?
And help greatly appreciated Chick

If you look at the history tab and click on the button at the bottom that says table you can get a more clear picture of how much and how frequently the item is being sold.
Also like all other PVP, only play with what you can afford to lose.

It's total volume traded. _________________ - "Welcome to EVE, remember to insu *BAAOOM*... Told you, newb."

I'm a noob too so my remark will perhaps be wrong in some way but i assume that PvP trading is actually much more secure than combat PvP, even if a market crashes for a long period of time you still have the option to reprocess your items and sell the minerals (unless you're actually trading minerals). I guess it's extreme, you can also be patient and wait for the market to recover. When you lose a fight the ship is gone for all. (unless insured but there's a cost)

Market PVP can be far more brutal than "combat" PVP in my experience.
If you lose a ship in a good fight you open a beer, dust yourself off, grab another ship and get back stuck in. Yet, two years on I still have nightmares about certain rare items I bought just before CCP seeded them on the market. A few mouse clicks and best part of 2b gone forever. I handled the loss of isk, but the shame of my loss will haunt me forever

In both cases the ISK lost is usually the only result of a loss. For example losing a rigged, T2 fit BS, ~300M ISK after insurance. If you get podded the cost of a clone and implants (say +3s) is another ~100M.
That is no different than buying high (say 1B worth of goods) and then having to sell low (600M) because someone has been manipulating the market.
In both cases you lose about 400M. The point is it's both ISK lost, and that those trying to make money in the market are no more kind (some say less so) than those in spaceship PVP
In the end everything is ISK: ships, goods, training time (in the for of implants and toons for sale), even playing the game in the form of GTCs.
